I’ve applied for DLA for my 2 year old who has a heart condition on a pathway for adhd and autism aswell as moderate hearing loss I have sent off all evidence to support this by the doctors and Auidology at the hospital it’s been around 10 weeks now and still no decision has been made yet, I’m posting just because I’m wanting to hear other peoples stories if they’ve been in similar situation have you been awarded or not etc x

Don’t hold your breath is the only advice I’d give.

I applied for dd (being assessed for ASD, speech and language delayed) last October.

Declined, mandatory reconsideration done when it was declined again and now I’m taking it to the Appeals Service with help from a community organisation. Still haven’t got a date for the hearing.

Unbelievably frustrating. They stated that as she could complete a puzzle as detailed in the Occ health report I’d included, she wasn’t in need of any more care than another child of her age. Never mind that I also explained she couldn’t cross a road on her own, or even tell someone her name if she got lost. I actually despair.

It took around 6 weeks for our decision.Good luck x

Also to add, we were awarded the highest level of the care element and we were told it was due to our night times being so disrupted (we have to get up several times for changing, feeding and meds for our 3 year old) I believe that they can be quite strict and have you have to base the application on your worst possible day with your child

Did you take a look at the NDCS website for any help with your application? Hopeful you'll be successful but in the event that you're not, definitely get them to help with an appeal

I applied for DLA for my 3-year-old grandson, and it took 7 weeks for the full award. He has very severe epilepsy.

They compare to the amount of care a "normal"child would have. And as a "normal" 2 year old would need quite a lot of care its far harder to get than for an older hild where the differences are more apparant.

New applications are generally around 10-12 weeks so you should hear fairly soon. Money will likely appear before decision letter. My son was diagnosed with autism at 2 and we were awarded hrc.

I'm on various DLA facebook groups ,it can take quite a while for first time applicants right now apparently
My son is 12 now he was awarded medium rate care when he was three for autism and learning disabilities
He has very complex needs and currently gets HRC and HRM under severe mental impairment rules

My dd is 2 and it took 4 months to get a decision. She gets middle rate. Still going through tests for diagnoses just very delayed. It’s harder if they are under three.

Hello! We are waiting too. They received our application 11 weeks ago today - 29th April.

Glad to hear we're not the only one with a longer than usual wait for a response.

Have a look at the Cerebra DLA guide. Its fabulous.

We first applied when D's was 2 in 2020, during lockdown and backlog. It took a good 20 weeks for his decision to come through. His renewal was much quicker 2 years later and longer awarded. There are groups on Facebook you can join to give help, advice and ideas on award times ATM.
