Connect with LinkedIn with an unsuccessful candidate?

DH had an interview today for a fairly senior role, and this evening the chair of the panel has connected with him on LinkedIn. Would anyone do this with someone who hadn’t got the job?

Clearly I am looking for one specific answer here.

Not sure it needs an apology - but then I’m not sure why the tone of your replies has been necessary. MN is full of people looking for a fight over absolutely nothing.
