Bruges with a toddler

Has anyone been to Bruges with a toddler, around 18 months old?

How is it in terms of carting a pushchair around, high chairs in restaurants etc? Would you do it with a little one, or would you have a kid free weekend away? We could leave him with his grandparents overnight.

The journey is not an issue as it is a three hour drive from where we live.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t say it’s toddler or pushchair friendly, but it’s manageable. Normally I recommend a small lightweight stroller for travelling, but Bruges is one of the times that a small travel stroller is NOT nice (bordering on horrible). You need one with large wheels and good suspension as there’s a lot of walking on cobblestone streets. We went on the train so didn’t have to worry about taking it on an aeroplane.
Buildings are old and quite a few hotels don’t have lifts, so that’s something to keep in mind and check.
The canal tours are toddler friendly and children ages 0-3 years old are free! The tour operator even let us leave our buggy at the dock where we got on and off of the boat.

I've been to Bruges many times, it's a fantastic place, but no I definitely wouldn't take a baby or toddler.

The streets are all cobbled, so hard to push a pushchair. The nicer restaurants and bars are small and cozy, I wouldn't want to try and get a buggy in some of them.

The main attractions in Bruges are museums, the Belfort, and beer, none of which you can really fully enjoy with a child.

To conclude, I'd definitely 100% leave the baby at home and just go as a couple.
