Perimenopause? Too early?

Symptoms I’ve been having:

  • getting really upset a few days before period, random crying, getting really anxious, crying over silly tv shows, anxiety just before period starts. This starts day 22 and gets worse until I get period.

  • Heavy periods… always had this but perhaps a bit heavier these days. Often start day 26/27

  • rage

  • awful headaches. I never had headaches before. Taking more painkillers than I normally would. I get several headaches a month (used to get 1 or 2 a year)

  • memory issues, feeling less confident at work, getting worried I’ve missed a deadline

  • inability to lose weight/craving sweet things all the time

  • digestive issues… so many things bloat me or make me have funny tummy. Given up eggs, alcohol, caffeine in recent months

  • flat feeling, bored of the daily grind

  • zero libido

  • always tired

however… no hot flushes or weird sweating and periods still fairly regular, once a month give or take a few days

I’m 39 very soon. My mum had hers early (around 40) and my older sister also suffered severe symptoms. They both started with bad memory issues.

if it is this… how can I confirm it? Is there an actual test? Mixed stuff online about that.

I'm 35 and have all these symptoms 😭 along with night sweats in the few days leading up to period and cycles getting shorter, have gone from 31 days to about 26days, one was 21 but all bloods came back normal! I've struck gold and got a wonderful nurse practitioner helping me try and work out whats going on (had 2 phone consults) she's currently thinking I potentially have a hormone imbalance balance and investigating HRT treatment with eostrogen patch but I would have thought it would be clear what was wrong from bloods 🤷‍♀️ if I get any answers I'll let you know.

in hindsight I definitely started peri around 37 and it may even have been earlier....

For me the most significant change is the emotions just before my period. I’m crying at the most silly things. And worrying about silly things.

maybe a trip to dr might be needed. I wonder if it’s related to some other health things I’ve had recently…. Digestive issues and neck issues.

god I feel old!

trying to get a drs appointment is v hard though. I doubt they will take this seriously.

Hi OP
Yes these are the symptoms I've had since I was 38 (now 41).
My advice is to take all the details particularly in relation to your cycle to GP and ask for HRT (if that's what you want, presuming you want some relief of all this!)
I started on Elleste which only part relieved my symptoms and am now on patches (Everol) and they have been life changing. I have more energy and feel like the person I was maybe 10 years ago.

I had hot flushes and still do occasionally so have transformed my wardrobe to being mainly cotton or cotton based fabrics.
My rage was so awful last year that I told my closest friends to F off and that I was suicidal. This was on my birthday weekend away. I cannot ever describe how that red mist comes down but it's fearful and made me an awful person to be around.

Have a look at Dr Louise Newsom's site too - she's a bit of a perimenopausal and menopausal guru.

I’m 44 and in hindsight have been peri for 2-3 years.

No hot flushes and still regular periods but cycle getting much shorter. Main symptoms that bother me is the rage and anxiety (plus chin acne). I feel a combination of really down and really angry, then period comes and I’m ok in the main, until it starts again a couple of weeks later. It’s definitely getting worse. Because I’ve never suffered from heavy or painful periods, I just attributed it all to work stress and felt like I had no grounds asking for help. I know it’s not work any more and the emotional symptoms are also debilitating so I’m going to make appt with GP.
