Rishi Sunak as PM

emmahazel · 14/07/2022 06:50

It's more likely now that Sunak will become our next PM as he has more MPs backing him. Penny is finished in my opinion with her trans comments.

Sunak's promised not to cut tax so this means higher living costs to continue.
Do you think he'll be a good leader?

At least he is not but Jeremy Corbyn.

PinaColadaSunset · 14/07/2022 07:46

No. More of the same and tainted by everything that has happened. He has been a central part of a corrupt cabinet.

Tom T for me. The party needs a fresh start. The government needs a fresh start.

MissusPongo · 14/07/2022 07:46

I think we could do far worse than Rishi (although he wouldn’t be my first choice). He’s right that controlling inflation should be the priority now, not tax cuts, and I respect him for not promising tax cuts purely to advance his own position if he doesn’t think it’s right for the country.

WinterMusings · 14/07/2022 07:47

No no no a thousand times no!!

Tom T is our best bet.

you can say all you like about BJ but at least he had the drive, enthusiasm & insight to see that we need growth to pull ourselves out of this. Belief & growth. Not penalties & simpering.

twilightermummy · 14/07/2022 07:55

Truss, just christ almighty. Ditto the other right-wingers. It’s The Apprentice on magic mushrooms

So true!

girlmom21 · 14/07/2022 07:57

There's not a good choice amongst them but at least it's neither of the two creeps who lost out yesterday or Liz "go to fight in Ukraine - oh no that's against the law so I definitely never said it" Truss

choosername1234 · 14/07/2022 07:59

But he also received a fine for partygate. On that basis alone I don't think he is suitable candidate

Blite · 14/07/2022 08:02

I think Rishi (who's dashing BTW) is being dished up to the public only to give way to another candidate last minute. The racist public will do a huge collective sigh of relief when it's not Rishi and his Indian born non-dom wife running the country and willingly accept whoever else it is.

For what it's worth, I don't think the country needs another rich beyond belief leader and hope that Labour will win the next election, no matter who becomes PM.

I tend to agree. He's not a brilliant chancellor, to put it mildly, but as a labour voter I think he's probably the best of the candidates, not completely deluded about the country's finances and prepared to promise tax cuts to win, not a mad right wing ideologue, but very very beatable at the next election.

Lonelycrab · 14/07/2022 08:06

Well I’d prefer Sunak to Truss any day. Truss is a liability and will mess up very fast, she’s an awful speaker and dim with it too.

Think you're right. It looks like he's paving the way for Mordaunt?

Blite · 14/07/2022 08:15

I want Sajid.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 14/07/2022 08:21

Cost of living crisis isn’t primarily driven by UK tax levels though. A bit off corporation tax and some titting about with the housing market — which is what most of the other candidates are talking about, really — isn’t going to heat people’s houses or put food on the table.

100% agree with this. Sunak would be very beatable at the next election. Starmer is looking and sounding like a PM as every day passes compared to the rabble of Tory candidates.

CockingASnook · 14/07/2022 08:35

Polls suggest that if it’s Rishi and any of the others, most likely Truss or Mordaunt, that go to the membership then the others would win. Which is a shame as Truss and Mordaunt are both dumb as rocks and haven’t a strategic brain cell in their heads.

felicityfortunate · 14/07/2022 09:13

Kemi is my favourite

CormoranStrike · 14/07/2022 09:17

I don’t think he will get it, I think people are ready for a change and anyone too closely associated with recent shenanigans won’t be the choice of party members.

I suspect Penny Mordaunt will get it.

It doesn’t come down to the MPs in the end. The final two candidates go to the party membership, and they will elect Mordaunt in a run off between her and Sunak.

NotDavidTennant · 14/07/2022 09:18

The bookies have Penny Mordaunt as the odds on favourite now. Sunak's campaign has peaked too soon.

For going to a meeting and finding another gathering going on and being offered a piece of birthday cake, which he accepted.

Not the same as a drunken drinks party.

ArcticRoll2 · 14/07/2022 10:07

Wow aggressive much? I was commenting on how they are all as bad as each other and in my opinion even worse with Labour!!!! Sorry if I touched a nerve but was no need for that aggressive comment back. Grow up.
