Have the first job interview that I've had in years tomorrow. Very out of practice
What are common interview questions now? What should I be thinking about?
It's admin based.
Thanks

Google it and you’ll find loads of common interview questions. Look up the STAR technique and structure your answers to make sure you’re answering properly.

I have a great question for you to ask them, if you want it.

"If you were to offer me the role, what do you think would be the biggest challenge for me in the first few months after talking on the position".

It really asks the interviewer to share any possible weaknesses or concerns that they may have, and gives you time to address these, or to focus on these areas at a second interview.

I used this question in a recent interview and got great feedback from it, I also got the job Smile

In my case I knew my background and experience was a very close match and after I asked that question the interviewer did pretty much admit that, so for me it also confirmed that they must have been seriously considering offering me the position

I'd think about questions to show your interest. What does an average day look like? What's the majority of the role entail? How many in your team? How do you fit in with them? Priorities for each day? Will they need you to do any specific training if you are successful?
I talked similarly about challenges but more around the area of work and the bigger picture challenges.
My last interview I asked them more questions after they finished their set questions and we talked for longer. I got the job.
Stay calm, don't rush your answers, ask them if they need you to expand on an answer if you're not sure you have given enough. Be light & approachable. Try & hide your nerves. Smile and make nice eye contact with all of the panel.
Good luck!

Ive been an internal recruiter for a number or years. My top tips for anyone interviewing for an admin position would include:

  • Make sure you’ve read the job description
  • Research the company thoroughly, jotting down their their mission, values and ethos. We always ask what candidates know about us and hiring managers love when candidates can evidence that they’ve taken the time to find out what we stand for.
  • Be prepared to give examples of times when you’ve had a tricky task or colleague and how you overcome those difficulties and what you learnt in the process
  • if you don’t understand the question, don’t be afraid to ask them to repeat or rephrase it
  • take your time and don’t be afraid to ask to come back to a question
