What to wear for University interview

DS1 has an interview coming up for a course at University (not for a degree course, if you're wondering about the timing).

The invitation specifically says there's no dress code, wear what's comfortable. That would be scruffy, baggy hiking trousers and a heavy rock band t-shirt, which is basically is uniform outside of work. Even at work he wears the same trousers with their regulation polo shirt. He's never been one for following fashion or caring about his appearance, has always prioritised comfort.

What should he wear?

Yes, the chinos bother me. He'd be almost in fancy dress as a MC office worker on dress down Friday, which is so far away from what he is. Ni one we know dresses like that, ever. He'd be more comfortable in a suit than that!

So his usual clothes, but a bit of effort to pick the smarter ones and no violent images on the t-shirt?

Yes, absolutely. If his hiking trousers are all really scruffy, maybe treat him to a new pair. Fwiw my dd wore jeans to all her interviews for a STEM subject, 'top 10' unis, full set of offers.

What should he wear?

What he feels comfortable in.

They really don't care, there are no points to be gained in the interview by wearing the 'right' thing.

It might be a case of a minus point if he is obviously not comfortable in whatever he wears.

HTH

If they don't care why would there be negative points for what he wears? 😆

I did consider mentioning in my original post that if he did not wear comfortable clothes there could be a minus point for not being able to read and follow instructions.

Or perhaps thinking that they were not being serious when they explained their dress code.

But thought it might be obvious.

Shirt (with collar) and trousers not jeans eg chinos is fine.

He will look like he is cos playing a man who works in GAP. Confused

As long as he and his clothes are clean and not smelling they won’t care.

I agree with this. Don't stink and don't wear anything with an offensive slogan.

Wearing chinos and/or a tie is just weird. It's their minds they are interested in.
