Is your teenager struggling to get a job?

Because DS is.

DS is 18 next week and since finishing college has applied for 15-20 jobs. He's had one interview (and wasn't successful) and heard back from one other (didn't get it) but nothing from any of the others.

Most are from indeed and so I appreciate there is a lot of interest but there are 100+ people going for each job! I did think DS was exaggerating but two of the jobs he's gone for have confirmed this in person. I thought retail and hospitality were desperate for staff but maybe not...

He hasn't got any experience, I get that but people can't get experience without a job and vice versa.

I find those parents annoying too so can I just confirm that I haven't got involved in the job hunt at all (except printing off his CV at work!)

Also there is nothing more off putting than these Facebook posts by Mothers wanting to find jobs for their kids , no , where is their ambition and motivation and if they can't even search for their own job it doesn't bode well for them actually doing the job

In practice many many many jobs are found by networking. Why is it ok for someone to get an internship because mummy is a client of a law firm who wants to keep her sweet, but not for dad to post in the local FB group to see if there are any jobs that haven't been advertised (16/17 year olds can't post because it's over 18s). All you are doing is asking for leads. Doesn't really matter whether parents do it or siblings or friends. My ds was offered a job last year through his swimming teacher. Ok not a parent, but still an adult making the time to put feelers out for him.

Because fb is for over 13's so if a teen wants a job they should be posting themselves.

My daughter had the same problem - I got loads of great advice on a thread on here. Although the main problem was being under 18 for lots of them.

She got a job at Clarks eventually but not many hours, it's a start though!

Colleagues children have had good luck at the Jump Ninja, Inflatination sort of places - you have to be a teen to put up with the noise I suspect!

It'll probably be easier in a few months when places lose their university student staff. DD1 (17) got a job at a restaurant chain last October.
