Neighbour tried to force his way into my house

Not sure how to deal with this so looking for advice.

We have had some issues with 2 neighbours since lockdown playing very loud music in the garden every day.

I have repeatedly reported them to the council who haven't done very much about it. Sometimes it's late into the night and keeps us awake.

I have a newborn baby who's been woken by it several times and it just seems to be getting worse!

So today I saw the neighbour angrily storming down the street and then hammering with both fists on my front door, immediately my baby started screaming, I went to the door and told him I have a newborn he needs to calm down! He said "I don't give a fuck" then he went on to complain I had reported him and he couldn't understand why because no one else has a problem. He said he works so is entitled to play music whenever he wants...

I told him everyone can hear it it's that loud and we are all bothered about it. He was getting more aggressive so we went to shut the door but he started throwing his body at it preventing us. We managed to get it shut so he then started shouting abuse through the letterbox! Telling my husband to fuckoff back home (he's not from England).

Ive phoned the police who haven't bothered turning up! Ive also ordered a ring doorbell that's due to arrive Thursday, I'm not sure what else to do! I was so worried for my baby I couldn't even hold him after I was shaking so much.

So I don't drip feed, his set up in the garden is a full decks type set with chuffin flashing disco balls! He scratches his music (if that's what it's called) and asks for requests over the microphone too...

This definitely needs to be reported properly to the police. He is harassing you and making threats which may lead to violence.

Neither of these have been described in the OP. Had you asked him and discussed with him the music volume before reporting OP?

chuffer15 · 13/07/2022 08:13

Thank you for all the replies and advice.
My dh is from Europe and is white, you can see his nationality on his car. I didn't hear him shout "and tell your bf to fuckoff back home" it was my dh who told me and a friend afterwards, he didn't understand the reference.

I can't afford to move, it's not the best of areas but the rest of the neighbours are absolutely lovely. The others that live around here just go inside and shut their windows/doors rather than report.

I'll call 101 today now I'm a lot calmer and log it, I also phoned the council to log it with them.

where did op say he tried to break the door down?

and how did preventing a door closing convert to trying to force his way into your home....and how do you know (in the absence of a ring doorbell) that he hammered on the door 'with both fists'?

adds to the drama i suppose

No one should be pre eating someone from shutting g their door to their privately owned space.

Stop minimising.

Because I can tell you it is t the OP wanting drama - it's posters like you who post ridiculous replies to get a reaction.

ifchocolatewerecelery · 13/07/2022 08:25

Do you have a chain? I'd be getting one as well as the doorbell if you don't

chuffer15 · 13/07/2022 00:08

Thanks 42, I can never see if I'm being over dramatic sometimes.

I too think the police need to escalate this as frankly he sounds potentially dangerous, certainly racist and violent, I wish you and yours all the best and when faced with a similar but not so awful experience I completed the 4 week diary and emailed it back to the council also copying in very single local councillor I could find (most email address are available on your council website). One room notice and then spurred the council into action.

Tryingmyb3st · 13/07/2022 09:32

It sounds like from the garden set up your neighbour owns his property. If not and it's housing association, it's definitely worth getting in touch with his housing officer.

No it's a council property, majority are still on my street. When I reported his set up they were questioning if he had permission to build his little dj pallet thingy.

It’s unacceptable behaviour by the neighbour. I would report it

the police are understaffed and busy.....its hardly crime of the century!!

maybe its not that they haven't 'bothered' to come and more like they are prioritising

Even so the police should be dealing with this as assault is serious and next time it may escalate. Saying the police are busy is just making excuses for a shit service.

jessycake · 13/07/2022 10:45

Get all the neighbours together to complain and be persistant , someone on my estate had all his equipment confiscated he was whinging on the local gossip board .

What exactly is their job then, the police? OP ignore this, the police need to be giving this headcase a stern talking to about his racist and threatening language and behavior, possibly investigating an assault and the council need to shut down his pound shop nightclub. What an absolute arse.

Myyearmytime · 13/07/2022 10:52

Report to the housing association.
He could breaking his tenancy agreement.

You're not very nice, are you? Minimising hate crime and intimidation. These things often escalate very quickly and seriously.

AthenaPopodopolous · 13/07/2022 11:01

The best things to do is move. Arseholes like that don’t change. Reporting it has resulted in escalating and potentially serious violence and you have a helpless baby to consider. I feel for you but reporting is obviously just provoking him and risking danger to you and your baby.

QuebecBagnet · 13/07/2022 11:06

It’s also possibly a racist attack which I believe is classified more seriously. The bit about telling your Dh to go back to where he came from?

parietal · 13/07/2022 11:07

I can't believe that people are minimising this or saying that you should move (as if that were easy).

This is a man who bangs on the door, tries to force entry and shouts racist insults.

Call the police & report a racist-hate incident. Call the council. Call the housing association. Keep records and keep calling and keep complaining.

stopringingme · 13/07/2022 11:07

Try and get the details of your local councillor, they are usually very helpful.

bravotango · 13/07/2022 11:14

The other thing you could do (apologies if this has been suggested) is email your local councillor and ask it to be logged with the antisocial behaviour team? This has worked for me in the past when the police haven't attended or followed up, and can link into env health to build a better picture at their end of what's going on. Agree with reporting race hate crime to police as well

DillonPanthersTexas · 13/07/2022 11:15

If you have a good relationship with other people on the street I would start to encourage them to lodge complaints with the council as well as contacting the police. I am sure they will take a dim view of a violent racist neighbour banging on doors and trying to force his way into someone's home. Are these neighbours tenants or homeowners? If the former contact the landlord or the agency dealing with them.

FurAndFeathers · 13/07/2022 11:16

Looks like the racism and intimidation apologists have turned up @IGotItInTheSales and @growandhope

what exactly would you class as intimidation and harassment then if racist hate speech, verbal aggression and attempting to break and enter someone’s property don’t count?

or is that what passes for normal social interaction in your circles?

I would call someone throwing their body against a door whilst I tried to close it 'forcing his way into the house', how else could you describe it?

And every house I have lived in has had glass in the front door so I would have been able to see someone hammering with both hands as I walked up to the door

If you start from the assumption that every op is lying why even bother to read posts at all?

Seriously? Even leaving aside the Collin Reeves case - you really think this is insignificant? Good lord...!

Op - I'd ring your local MP and talk to them about the lack of action from the Police.

Tryingmyb3st · 13/07/2022 12:02

If it's HA then get in touch with his housing officer. The process is slow moving but you heed to record everything and call the housing officer each and every time there is unacceptable noise or behaviour. This is obviously alongside following through with your police action.
The housing officer will (or should) send an unacceptable action letter which is a warning. If it persists, they have the power to involve the dedicated anti-social team. I'm not saying it's a quick fix, but he's banking on you being intimidated into silence. His HO has the power to evict (lengthy process) if he racks up enough warnings/unacceptable actions.
The HO will be rammed with caseload. If they see your name popping up on their phone each day/regularly and know its another time they hage to go through the process of logging, sending a letter, referring etc, they will want to.find a resolution as quickly as possible as that's a lot of extra caseload.
Obviously, this is my understanding of my local HA and processes may differ in your area.

What absolute rubbish!! I’d say that’s a pretty serious crime actually and the OP and her DH are going to be frightened leaving their home in case he assaults them - which isn’t an unlikely scenario given that he tried to force their door open!

VioletInsolence · 13/07/2022 12:12

I would buy some Defence ID spray….it’s £9.99 on Amazon x
