Premierinn surprised at how expensive it is?

I was looking at premierinn today for 2 nights in Cheltenham for next week and it's nearly £300!
Need to go up for work and was budgeting around £200. Have the prices gone up or is it just the time of year? Now need to find somewhere cheaper. Or relook at my budget.

The prices change depending on how in demand and how soon it is. I've forgotten the name of it but the price for the same thing would have been different say 2 months ago

Welshrarebitontoast · 12/07/2022 20:48

Unless I happen to have found a special offer I find Premier Inn very expensive now.

I have a hotel that I regularly used to use that was £80-95 per night, now the same hotel is about £120 per night.

Citrus Hotel is more basic but central to the town. My friend was taken ill on the weekend when we stayed there and they were so helpful.

Going to look for a b&b that's got to be cheaper. Anyone know a good one in Cheltenham?

Travel industry person here. It’s peak season, obviously, and with all the disruption & capacity restrictions in the aviation sector many people either don’t want to go abroad on holiday this summer or can’t find anything available or within their budget. These factors combine to increase demand for hotels in the U.K, and when demand outstrips supply higher prices are inevitable.

I’m not sure why Cheltenham would be particularly expensive, but when I was in London two weeks ago, and almost every Premier Inn & Travelodge in the entire city was fully booked due to Wimbledon, Pride, Ed Sheeran at Wembley etc etc.

Hbh17 · 12/07/2022 20:55

All hotel prices have increased significantly this year.

Kezzie200 · 12/07/2022 20:59

I often stay at the Travelodge Cheltenham and that's fine there's just a bit extra to pay for parking.

The cheapest we've ever had is the guest house attached to Brierfields campsite. They were cheap rooms when my daughter graduated about 5 years ago.

We've also stayed at Malvern Guest House over Cleeve Hill way. That was lovely.

Oh, and Holiday Inn express in the town. Again pay for parking there.

Maybe there's races on? Pushing demand up.

Good luck!

Kezzie200 · 12/07/2022 21:03

Malvern View Guest House. Sorry I forgot the view bit on my post above

Lochnessgiraffe · 12/07/2022 21:03

No races I did check. Just looked at the citrus Hotel looks good. Frustratingly I don't know if I need to stay wed-fri or tue- Thursday as work can't confirm if I need to be there Wed or Thursday yet! Hopefully I'll know soon. And I need to sort out trains. Argh.

I've always stayed at Premier Inn ... I think this year their prices are astranomical!

Think next time I'm away, I'll look for Airbnb

It’s the Music Festival in Cheltenham at the moment so that will affect demand. I’ve noticed that all hotels are at least 30-50% more expensive since 2019. Self catering accommodation is also at least 50% more expensive. They are clearly trying to make up for losses in the pandemic.

purplecorkheart · 12/07/2022 21:12

Might be worth downloading a vpn and changing your location. If you google you will find countries that it is cheaper to book from. Change your location to there and you may get a bargain

Bettyboop3 · 12/07/2022 21:25

I would say look for an airbnb, i stayed in 1 recently in Cornwall, 3 beds, 2 baths, huge place for £99 a night. Much cheaper than any of the budget hotels.

Rainbowshit · 12/07/2022 21:33

I stayed in a premier inn in london recently. I stayed in it every fortnight for 2 years solid pre covid while my kids were having hospital treatment so aware of seasonality. The price recently was astronomical in comparison. Couldn't believe it. Couldn't find anything significantly cheaper for the same date.

workwoes123 · 12/07/2022 21:41

We usually take a family room a premier inn next to the airport, usually it’s £40-50 max. This year £140!! We won’t even get there until after midnight as the flight is a late one.

HumunaHey · 12/07/2022 21:51

Just look on booking.com if you're not sure of dates. Plenty of choice and many offer free cancellation until much closer to the date.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 12/07/2022 21:55

It’s bonkers. The premier inn and Travelodge near my London office are now more than £250 a night (usually £80-110). I’ve had the rest of the year’s travel booked already to try and get it down.

FredaFox · 13/07/2022 07:10

Demand is high, we've just put an embargo on booking hotels in London this month as prices are crazy. Hotel costs are astronomical this year and we are now in peak season, book early where possible

That said I booked a hotel in Leeds for Friday night at £80 which I was pleasantly surprised by

Adversity · 13/07/2022 09:09

DS paid £63 for one night at the Hemel Hempstead one last month think it was a Wednesday night. It’s getting in to peak season.

gogohmm · 13/07/2022 09:11

It's holiday season, they vary according to demand. I paid £59 for a premier inn during March

workwoes123 · 13/07/2022 11:33

I did notice on their website that they use 'dynamic pricing' which seems to be using algorithms to constantly monitor occupancy, demand, enquiries etc and change prices accordingly, which is why they vary so much and so often. I suspect not even the staff know what price the rooms are going to be priced at, at any one time, it changes constantly

Lochnessgiraffe · 13/07/2022 11:53

@generalh thanks for the recommendation I've booked citrus Hotel provisionally for only £150 including breakfast and cancelling.

My Son went to London last weekend and stayed in a Premier Inn, he did manage to get quite a good deal, but large hotel was full and therefore they put prices up. I think so many families have had their holidays abroad cancelled, so hotels know they are going to get extra bookings.
