I once took my dear lady away for a romantic weekend, and kept the location/hotel as a surprise.

On the way as we passed an airport she commented that she always wonders where people are going, so I thought I was being clever with a distraction from road signs etc, and told her to take my phone off the cradle and to look on it for FlightRadar, then how to aim it at the aircraft for the information and how to get a virtual cockpit view.
This was great and lasted all of the way to the hotel car park.

I gained numerous brownie points once she discovered what I had booked.
All was wonderful, including discovering the gifts in the room that I had previously dropped off

That was until she stepped onto the balcony, looked at the ocean view, and rushed back in the room …. “Is there an app for tracking ships?”

@mylittleyumyum

We fancy going to that island in the Caribbean that they land over the beach.

Dp is a huge Flightradar24 fan and i dabble. Off for a tour of former Battle of Britain airfields this weekend

Have a look at the flights to Barra. Not the same weather, but the beach landings and takeoffs are stunning.

Grin

I was amazed, looking at that, to see just how crowded the English channel is. I knew it was supposed to be busy, but had no idea just how so.

I've always wondered what's the attraction? Not being goady, could you explain why you follow Flight Radar?

We live under the flight path for a large American airbase. We get all sorts of weird and wonderful aircraft going over. It's also interesting to see where they've been - lots patrolling the Ukraine borders atm.

Most interesting though are the ones that don't appear. Last night some helicopters went over, they were filmed and put on our local facebook page so I didn't imagine them but there was no record on flightradar.

Ah yes. I remember the days when Concorde used to fly over South London - always around 7pm I think.

5.24pm in our patch.

It depends on the type of transponder, whether or not the owners have registered to be filtered out, and particularly with the military whether or not the transponder is on/off

There are other trackers which may or may not filter out certain transponders, and also specific trackers for military aircraft etc, some I’ve used are:

freedar.uk
