Been to Florida and Paris.
Depends how much time you have - Florida was so full on it was exhausting.
Paris l liked because it was still magical but you could always pop back to the hotel during the day for a rest and go back to the parks whereas l wouldn't do that in Florida.
They charge for parking in Florida which annoys me after spending hundreds on entry.
But weather is good in Florida and there is so much more than Disney there.
On balance though Paris gets my vote

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 12/07/2022 08:18

Sorry costings - best part of £8k for 3 of us for 2 weeks Paris £1200 for 3 nights
Was worth the money as dd loved it but not a cheap break at either one.

Glenthebattleostrich · 12/07/2022 08:22

Been to paris and Florida. We actually have a Disney timeshare so stay onsite in Florida close to the parks so it's easy to go back to the hotel during the day, otherwise it is to full on a holiday.

Love both, but yes, Florida is definitely not a relaxing holiday!

we paid about 800 for paris for 2 days / 2 nights.

Disney world would be in the region of 8000 for the 2 weeks, but thats with premium economy seats on the flights and staying onsite in a moderate hotel. There are ways to do it much cheaper.

I’ve been to all three, the LA one is really good for combining with something else so you can go for a couple of days and then in my case go on a cruise. Florida was my least fave mainly because I didn’t enjoy the food in the area. Paris was great, I went for 4 nights on Eurostar and has a fab holiday.
For the age of your DC I’d probably say Florida would work best if you wanted the full on week or two week experience.

CormoranStrike · 12/07/2022 08:34

I’ve done Florida once and Paris a few times.

tickets to get it are very expensive, but there are passes or deals via hotels.

Florida itself has so much to offer beyond Disney, you could easily build a two week holiday around it and still see a fraction. The parks themselves are big and varied, you could easily do a day per park.

DLP is a short break destination - unless you and the kids like doing the same rides repeatedly you would struggle to stretch it beyond two days, however France itself is lovely so if you wanted a longer holiday I’d be building it in around a week of Eurocamp or something similar.

price wise I have been to paris this year on a day trip. Food in the park is decent, but pricey, and tickets I. Cost us about £55 for a single day in a single park. There are still some things closed, too.

Afterfire · 12/07/2022 08:34

If you’re thinking about going have a look at some vlogs on You Tube by a family called “the despicable 3” they do tons of tips / insights etc and have been to Disneyworld and the universal parks many times. Ds and I have been watching all the videos on they’ve been really helpful.

Im just back from 5days/4nights in paris with my 5yr old daughter. It was great would definetly book again but maybe in the spring when its not as hot. I got a disney hotel and park tickets from disneyland direct for £960 and was about £300 for flights which I thought was a great deal! Hotel was a 10 min walk from parks so easy to go back for a rest and change of clothes. Take plenty of spends everything is very expensive!

I was in Florida this June and California in 2019. Of the 2, I prefer California. The climate though hot, is not humid so it’s much more pleasant. I found Florida exhausting and needed a few days to recover when I got home. There are the four Disney parks in Florida but I found the DGD just wanted to go to the magic kingdom and the studio. Price wise I thought both American parks similar. I think I spent about £7500 on flights, hotel, and tickets. Disney Europe is great and the rest of Paris is just a short ride away on the train.

PattyMelt · 12/07/2022 08:49

We've only done Disneyland You can get tickets that cover both Disneyland and California Disney adventure that's next door. We usually stayed a few blocks away from Disneyland (cheaper) as most hotels had a minibus that ran back and forth to the park gates all day long. We used to go and eat a good breakfast at Denny's or IHOP. then we'd have a late lunch or early dinner later on.

3peassuit · 12/07/2022 08:51

I forget to say £7500 was for 2 adults and one child.

FMSucks · 12/07/2022 09:18

I've been to DisneyWorld 8 times (jaysus!) and Disneyland Paris once.

Last time in Florida was this June. Two weeks, flights, villa 30 mins from Disney, 2 nights in deluxe Disney hotel, car hire, tickets for parks, spending money approx €13,000 (we did go mad though!). Florida has gone very expensive to the point that the rest of Orlando is as expensive as the Disney parks themselves. I've been going to Florida for 25 years now (was at the 25th anniversary and now at the 50th this year). I have never seen it as expensive. Was it worth it? - a million times over but I am a Disney nut and it's my happy place. It is tough going in the heat and pounding concrete while queueing for the rides and it is not for everyone, but I love it and so did my DS14 and DS12. You need two weeks for DisneyWorld though so you can come and go and not have to spend 12 hours in the parks per day. We spent around 5 hours a day and some days we didn't go at all. We were able to go to all parks more than once and it was much more do-able.

I have not been to Disneyland Paris since my DS was 3, he is now 14. He loved it. It's much smaller than DisneyWorld and you would most likely stay in a Disney hotel which is much more convenient. You could also do it as a 3 or 4 night stay whereas with Florida you really need the two weeks.

If I had to pick one it would be Disney World every single time and I am very envious of @Glenthebattleostrich who has a Disney timeshare!

FMSucks · 12/07/2022 09:21

Oh forgot to mention one thing - I found it much easier this year as my DS's are older now. It was tough going when they were younger as it's very warm in Florida and everyone can get a tad cranky!

Quartz2208 · 12/07/2022 09:30

I have been to Florida as a child around 8 times and have taken mine 7 - and it has never been so expensive as it has now. We managed to get to Disney at Christmas 2021 (as Omicron was hitting) and planning on Disney 2022 - the tickets alone are £500 more expensive this year than last - the prices have really ramped up!

Disney is like buying a house - there are ways to do it on different budgets. My advice is figure out how much you have to spend and work it from there and figure out which one you can do.

Florida Disney TIckets alone will be 2.5k I think for your ages for 14 days tickets, flights hotel spending money at least 10k now

Paris - shorter holiday looks cheaper because you are there less!

Glenthebattleostrich · 12/07/2022 12:03

@FMSucks would it make you more jealous if I told you that we stayed at animal kingdom lodge in April and this was the view from our window?!

I do think if you are planning to do disneyworld, its worth the extra to stay onsite. You really don't need to worry about anything when you're there, the transport is good and everything is so easy! Plus Uber / Lyfts aren't particularly expensive so you can still get out and see the other stuff Orlando has to offer

Summerwhereareyou · 12/07/2022 12:20

Did you want to save money for Disney Paris?
All the area was built around Disney so even so called off site hotels are still very close.
We found a annual pass and stay off site was cheapest and nicest...you also get your own entrance, early Hours.

But remember Disney theme parks are not necessarily the best or nicest

FMSucks · 12/07/2022 12:50

@Glenthebattleostrich - yes it does!! Looks amazing! I've looked at the timeshare but need to win the euromillions first!

I do agree with @Glenthebattleostrich wrt the Disney hotels. They are so handy for the parks and remove all the commuting (it can sometimes take up to one hour to even get into the Magic Kingdom from the carpark!). We stayed for two nights in the Disney Beach Club resort which was a short boat ride to Hollywood Studios and a 5 min walk to Epcot with own entrance to the park.

The downside to the hotels though is that inevitably you're in a hotel room with not much private space. The villa for us was fantastic as we had so much space. You could even mix it up like we did, although my bank balance did not allow for any more than two nights at Disney!

We’ve been to Disneyland Paris & California - to be brutally honest neither time has been particularly enjoyable and we won’t be returning! Eye watering prices to spend your day standing around with tired and cranky kids in massive queues.

Universal Studios on the other hand was amazing and we all loved it. It’s a bit cheaper and since the fast pass system is better and the parks more compact you can fit far more in and really get your money’s worth. We left Disney unsaturated and feeling as if we hadn’t even seen 1/4 of it, whereas at Universal we were able to go on every ride they had and go on the ones we really enjoyed multiple times. In general it was far more modern and the rides a lot newer + using more advanced technology

If you want more space on Disney, you can rent DVC points and book a larger hotel room / villa with more bedrooms.

SunshinePie · 12/07/2022 15:18

We have just got back from 2 weeks Orlando, 25k for a family of 4. But we did go high end (reunion resort, Escalade car, eating every meal out, parks, clothes shopping etc). Yeah it was worth it because we haven’t been able to travel for 2 years. But if we were on low income obv we wouldn’t have gone 🤷‍♀️
