had some info my daughter year 2 teacher assessment sats.

she is working below standard for everything apart from 1 she's working towards. Not at the expected level of any of the areas. I feel so sad about this, she loves school but things are not coming naturally to her 😓

she is speech delayed and likely has dyspraxia. She does have an EHCP but I don't feel they are giving her enough support. They aren't referring her for an assessment for dyspraxia. She is so switched on in other ways, she is super sociable and artistic, has a natural flare for art but it's the basic things she's struggling with.

I know the school can't work miracles but it's not that she doesn't want to learn, my eldest has sen too and he generally lacks any interests in academics but with Dd she really tries. They just seem to leave her to it.

I feel like I should move her school, more so now because Ds will be off to secondary soon so a good time to move her with minimal disruption. ds did not do his sats. But taking her out would mean taking her from her friends.

she tries so hard and I'm so proud of her. Covid school closures haven't help, she didn't go to school despite having an EHCP. She's also the youngest in her class and not even 7 yet 😓

If your child has an EHCP then the school should be putting strategies in place to help her, based on her EHCP.
The school should have applied for Higher Needs Funding to facilitate this.

Op as astonishing at it sounds, I don't think many primary school/teachers have any idea of what an ehcp is , what it's for or what it means!

We expect them to know as the job is to educate all children but it's not taught to rhem!

You have to know, and teach them what it means. You have to know the law...

Also consider getting her a tutor with Sen knowledge to help her.

She has an EHCP for a reason, and it’s probably for that reason that she didn’t meet the expected standards in her SATs. If the EHCP is good and up to date, it shouldn’t make too much difference if she was assesses for dyspraxia because her needs will already have been identified.

Can you see that your dd has made progress academically over the last year? Wether or not she is making progress is more important than SATs.

Dts we're at working towards for everything. It's since come to light hat they are extremely dyslexic. There has been no school intervention on this at all as it happened too late (a whole different story). Anyway they both have met exceeding in everything at y6 SATS. A lot can change in a short amount of time.

Thanks. I believe she has made good progress just at her own rate. I don't feel her year 1 teacher was adequate at her job either which didn't help.

she had an EHCP before she started school as her speech was severely delayed. She had never had 1:-1 but does have some degree of support in lesson time in the morning.

we had an annual review last autumn but the council has not updated it yet due 😩
