Straw poll - Payrises

Femalearchaeopteryx · 11/07/2022 12:01

I'll start by saying I am posting out of curiosity over anything else, we have already done the numbers and researched what the national average is and what other business around us and similar to us are doing so this is not in anyway to help our decision.

I run an SME just done discussions with our a managers regarding pay rises, they believe what we are offering is poor, we think it is realistic and the best we can offer during difficult times.

So we have offered a 4% pay rise, plus a trial of moving to 4 day week.

I will add that all the managers are aware the business has struggled massively over covid yet kept everyone employed and have had to borrow which we now have to pay back. In over words we can't afford a massive inflation beating pay rise this year.

So straw poll what has everyone else's pay rise been?

I will repeat before someone says anything we are perfectly capable of running the business without MNs help I'm curious to know what everyone else is doing.

4%. But just got notice today that they are making 17% of the company redundant. Swings and roundabouts clearly - ho hum

Sorry to hear that.

I have an inkling that larger employers will start introducing a 4 day week sooner rather than later now, as a way of giving a pay rise, but not a pay rise.

Soulbury scale here. The unions have requested 9% but will accept 2%; they’re toothless…

Also in times of labour shortages employers start to compete on T&C's.

PermanentlyTired03 · 12/07/2022 15:03

3% and a full change in pay scales. People were leaving in the 100s due to underpayment

Madmog · 12/07/2022 15:07

I have two jobs. One, it appears we're not getting anything. The other is 5.5%, but I only work one day a week so that gives us an extra £16.50 a month!

DH is a civil servant and government have said his sector are getting 2%, but their department have been told they're not getting anything.

PermanentlyTired03 · 12/07/2022 15:15

@Madmog I'm also CS. I thought 3% was good... until I found out my private sector equivalent had a 9% rise!

LadyDanburysHat · 12/07/2022 15:17

2.8% in a huge corporation that is doing well. I think your 4% is great.

QueryA · 12/07/2022 15:35

1.1% and increased workload and lower pension. no wonder people are leaving university research in droves

alphapie · 12/07/2022 15:39

Large company my pay rise this year has been 8% (I've also had my car allowance increased by 10%)

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/07/2022 15:41

Me - paycut of 1%
dh - pay rise around 30%

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 12/07/2022 15:41

Local authority. Absolutely nothing. Big thanks for keeping schools running over all the lockdowns, we feel so appreciated.

smiggleqiggle · 12/07/2022 20:26

0% payrise in three years, profitable SME.

MyNeighBoarTotoro · 16/07/2022 09:33

Everybody got their hourly wage raised by £1. That was a 6% pay rise for me but obviously a lot more for staff on lower wages and a lot less for staff on the highest wages.

Stag82 · 11/07/2022 15:29

Small charity. 3% in April and looking like we will get a one off cost of living increase September time pending board approval

Wow! Lucky you. Small charity here too. I got 1%.

Which is effectively a pay cut...

wonderstuff · 16/07/2022 10:07

I’m wondering whether peoples pay has generally kept pace with inflation over the last 15 years? I’m a teacher, so don’t know yet but union is requesting 11% I think, fuck all chance of getting that, but we have had a real terms cut of over 20% since 2007, so if we get 3% (which seems the best the government could offer given they won’t revise budgets in light of inflation) then we really are going to be much worse off than during the years when we got 0% and inflation was 2%.

MintJulia · 16/07/2022 10:12

I had 11% last September, specifically to cover costs of commuting to a different office, and 3% this April.

I'm fairly chilled about that since Covid stopped me travelling during the winter, so still slightly up on annual income.

WhyDoesItAlways · 16/07/2022 10:39

Public sector 2% here. I haven't had more than 2% since I started 12 years ago. It's a real time cut of around 23% despite having higher workload and expectations now. Ive stayed for the flexibility with young children but enough is enough now. People leaving in their droves, it's very sad.

Asdf12345 · 18/07/2022 17:07

To update my previous post I still have had nothing this year, the other half’s 15% has been followed with another 13%

carefullycourageous · 11/07/2022 15:22

The 4 day week trial is the same wage for a reduced working week - assumed this was what the op meant.

I would have assumed this too but the description of increasing hours suggests not to me? I would still rather do 4x 10 hour days I think but I can see some people might not need to.

Grumpsy · 18/07/2022 17:18

I moved companies due to a crap payrise - so 30% for an easier role. I know it doesn’t really count though.

Tulipvase · 18/07/2022 17:25

I’m a TA, so local government and 1.75% in April but that was for the previous year, they have just started arguing about this years so we will prob find out next year!

aModernClassic · 18/07/2022 17:55

0% again this year.

LadyCatStark · 18/07/2022 17:58

I’m public sector and got fuck all as per usual.
DH is private sector and got 5% but then changed jobs and got another rise but I’m not exactly sure how much TBH.
