How many fans do you have in your bedroom?

HardRockOwl · 11/07/2022 08:26

We have one. A tall dyson purifying one that my husband bought a couple of years ago to help with his allergies. He doesn't actually use it for the 'fan' iyswim

It stays on his side of the bedroom but I had to have it on my side last night as I'm just too hot and it got me thinking .. do you 'share' a fan or have your own one each?

None, open the window

Yodaisawally · 11/07/2022 08:59

None. I keep the blinds and windows shut in our bedrooms until
We go to bed and then open the windows. It's cool. Sill needed the duvet last night.

None, because I think they make an irritating noise. The only time I've seen a fan in a bedroom was in hospital when someone had a very high temperature so unless you were unwell I'm not sure why you have one in your bedroom.

How old are you?

sanityisamyth · 11/07/2022 08:59

None. Never have done. Didn't even cross my mind 🙈

parenthood1989 · 11/07/2022 09:02

None. I'm autistic and my brain just won't allow me to run appliances overnight - I wish I could because I barely slept last night I was so hot.

rainbowandglitter · 11/07/2022 09:03

None.

What about on a timer?

parenthood1989 · 11/07/2022 09:09

What about on a timer?

I hadn't actually thought of that - my obsession with switching things off is ridiculous and quite draining. I wonder if I might try a timer during the day for a while to control a fan in the living room, then give it a go at bedtime by gradually extending the time?

I'm always looking for workable solutions for things I just 'can't' do, that is a really helpful suggestions thank you

CrunchyCarrot · 11/07/2022 09:21

None. I dislike both the noise and the draught! I'd get cold - I am hypothyroid so easily get chilled.

FloralHandbag · 11/07/2022 09:22

One tower fan in mine, smaller tower fan in DSs. Keep the windows on one click usually. If DH is in then I might leave the bedroom window open.

MeanderingGently · 11/07/2022 09:28

I don't have a fan but I do have an air conditioner....it's bliss in hot weather.

I've never understood the point of fans, they don't cool the air down and just recirculate hot air, as well as all the dust. Also, I find it irritating to have air actually blowing over me.

The portable air conditioner, on the other hand, really does cool the air down significantly and kicks the hot air out of the window if you have sealed in your air vent properly.
Not only that but it cleanses the air by filtering it so it is collecting the dust rather than spreading it around in the atmosphere. I have to clean my dust filter regularly but if I've been using the air conditioner a lot, I really notice the lack of dust on surfaces when cleaning, as it's all been filtered out.

I just leave mine going in the corner of the room and the 'white noise' sends me to sleep.

Caspianberg · 11/07/2022 09:28

None.
I live where it’s 30+ degrees mostly from May-September. I have honestly never felt the need for a fan indoors.
Shutters on bedroom and curtains drawn daytime to keep heat out of its very hot.

If it’s 35 degrees outside daytime, bedroom is usually 23-26 in the evening (8pm) and cools down again as night goes on. The noise would drive me mad

Interestingly, despite the hot temperatures all summer, even new builds very very rarely have or need air conditioning here. I think the buildings are just quite well insulated.

People also believe ‘draft’ can kill here.

knittingaddict · 11/07/2022 09:39

One big overhead fan. Its better than any other fan we've had and very quiet. Fortunately I find the noise of a fan works like white noise and it sends me to sleep.

HardRockOwl · 11/07/2022 09:43

We also have a small air conditioning unit but I can't stand the noise so that only comes out when it's literally boiling hot

The dyson fan is quiet I have to say. I am sensitive to noise and I also hate air blowing on me so I angle this away from my face so it's just on my body and that's tolerable.

My fan has an inbuilt timer so you can't actually leave it on more than 2 hours . I'll see if I can find a link.

OldTinHat · 11/07/2022 09:52

None. Too noisy!

MenopauseSucks · 11/07/2022 09:57

Saisong · 11/07/2022 08:33

I have a massive Liverpool fan in mine, I agree they can be noisy - the snoring drives me bonkers.

😉

My feline fan of 'Hi-Life' cat food doesn't snore unlike your Liverpool fan but her early morning fishy breath is a delight to experience!

SushiShopSearch · 11/07/2022 10:04

We have a Dyson Cool Link Desk fan which is at my side of the bed and on all year round. In the winter it's usually on at 4 but now it's at full speed. It has a hepa filter so really cleans the air. We also have another more powerful (but basic) fan on my husband's side which only goes on when it's too warm (like now). Windows open year round too.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 11/07/2022 10:06

2 in our room, a tower one for this sort of weather and a small one on my bedside table for other times (I’m menopausal)

our house is far too well insulated so boiling in the summer, 32 degrees last night with blinds down all day then all windows open for a through draft from 9pm

DD is autistic and paranoid about open windows so even though I have insect screens I’m only allowed them open if our cats have gone to bed, even then I get grief sometimes

easyday · 11/07/2022 10:07

None, but my dd is in the loft so hotter there and she has one. Can't run it overnight as the noise bothers her.
I just sleep nude (I only share my bed with my dogs and they are not judgmental).

SpaceJamtart · 11/07/2022 10:36

One, its at the foot of the bed. I really like the noise of it and cant leave widows open overnight as we have a fire escape and people have broken in so many times.

Sunnytwobridges · 11/07/2022 10:41

I have two just for me. 😂

SpikeGilesSandwich · 11/07/2022 11:23

One big tower fan, pointing directly at me. All the windows are open too but I'm still boiling.
In this temperature, m quite willing to risk "fan death" tbh.

doadeer · 11/07/2022 11:25

Wouldn't be able to sleep without one, with window wide open my room was 29 degrees at 11pm last night we get the sun till it sets.
