Do some teens voices not break but just gradually get deeper?

DS is 14, all his friends voices (well the friends that come to our house regularly) have gone through the expected 'breaking', ie.cracking, temperamental, high then low.

DS has started puberty but his voice hasn't broken. It does sound like it's getting deeper. I just wondered if some boys voices just get very gradually deeper?

DS never had the breaking voice experience, he just went deeper and deeper to full on man.

I didn’t really notice DS’s voice get deeper, until he was at a friend’s (who was slightly younger) and they were in one room and I was chatting with his mate’s mum in another room and his mate shouted out something and DS replied, and us mum’s looked at each other in surprise as it was so noticeable how much deeper DS’s voice was! So no squeaky voice here

Yes ds also didn’t get the breaking voice bit. Just gradually got deeper. Didn’t notice it happening though.

EspeciallyDeIighted · 10/07/2022 22:25

My DS was gradual, just got deeper without us really noticing it breaking.

Sparklingbrook · 10/07/2022 22:40

My DSs it was just a gradual thing. I don't even remember exactly when it happened for them.

Changechangychange · 10/07/2022 22:41

DBro and DH never had that either. Just got deeper.

Gatekeeper · 10/07/2022 22:45

Ds voice didnt break either, just very gradually became deeper and deeper until it got so low frequency that its just a rumble!

Talipesmum · 10/07/2022 22:48

Same here - I just thought he had a bit of a cold for a while, until someone commented on it and I realised it was the new voice!

lljkk · 10/07/2022 22:51

All 3 DSs their voices never 'broke', they just drifted downwards fairly quickly, maybe ~6 weeks.

DD's voice also went down but seemingly overnight.

CountessOfSponheim · 10/07/2022 22:53

Yes, Ds's voice just got gradually deeper. And TBH that's what I remember my brothers' voices doing too.

merryhouse · 10/07/2022 22:53

Ha, S1 went from singing treble on Good Friday to bass on Easter Day...

Neolara · 10/07/2022 22:53

Ds just got deeper without me noticing..

DramaAlpaca · 10/07/2022 23:19

Two of my boys just went gradually deeper without anyone noticing. Poor DS2 wasn't quite so lucky and his voice went up and down for a couple of months.

Amandasummers · 10/07/2022 23:21

My sons just got gradually deeper

Hellocatshome · 10/07/2022 23:23

DS1 never really had the stereotypical voice breaking thing. I think I only really noticed it was deeper when I thought "who is DH talking to in the kitchen?" and when I went to investigate it was DS I would have sworn it was a fully grown man from the voice.

My ds was the same, never even a squeak! Just gradually got deeper.

I work in a secondary school. I have heard boy’s voices doing strange things just a handful of times over the years. For most, their voices just get deeper over time.
