Potential prolapse

Hi there

I’m hoping to get some advice, I’m 4 weeks postpartum after having my third baby.

I had a stressful labour, pushed and pushed for over an hour after being In labour for over 15 hours and he got distressed and I ended up in theatre with forceps and a 1st degree tear. There wasn’t a cut made by the doctors or anything unlike my last pregnancy where I had an induction.

Ive had no symptoms but had a look down there and there are two ridged lumps on the entrance of my vagina, I believe this might be a bladder and rectum prolapse in addition to having a uterine prolapse. Im hoping I could be wrong and the two lumps are my vaginal walls that could be swollen?

I am also hoping my uterus will shrink back up as well.

has this ever happened to anyone else? Can you give me advice ? Will it go away and get better? I do my pelvic floors religiously so I’m really down that this could be potentially happening.

will pelvic floor exercises reverse these prolapses?

what about sex? Does this affect your sex life? I’m worried I won’t be able to when I feel ready or able to have sex again?

Does the pelvic floor toner ultra help? Kegel 8 ultra I believe ?

I’ve lost all my confidence since my third baby and this isn’t helping things.

I would wait and ask at your next check up for the GP or midwife to take a look.

When I had DD2, the labour prolapsed both my bladder and cervix. My cervix did return to its normal position within a few weeks but I do still have a bladder prolapse. It doesn't affect sex at all and DH swears he cannot tell. Pelvic floor exercises can help but once you get to a certain stage of prolapse they can't reverse it. Mine is totally manageable though..... although my trampolining days are definitely over!

But firstly I'd get checked out because it may, or may not be.

Thank you for this I am worried in case I cannot reverse it, it’s made me very upset but your most has given me hope that it is manageable

In France and Switzerland all women get up to 3 months of post partum physio as standard covered by insurance. If you can afford it, it might be worth seeking support from a womens health specialist physio. If you prefer to do exercises from home, Abby Lord from Hypopressives Scotland is amazing! Does 1:1 sessions on line until you have mastered the technique and then on line 30 minute classes at various times during the week. I can highly recommend.

Thanks for that, did you find that these classes nearly reversed everything or did it ease symptoms only? I’ll definitely look into this

I am 3 months in to doing this.. its much better but I still have a way to go.. had seen a surgen who said I had no other option than surgery and had already tried other methods including a probe that stimulated the muscles (did that for a long time), physio and another programme.. this is giving the best results so far.

Thank you for explaining this to me, it’s quite daunting as I don’t know what grade these prolapses are and the thought of surgery is quite scary

I was in your exact position after birth of my second - I really remember that fear! The doctor check up is definitely worth waiting for, as your uterus is still swollen now. I had mine at 8 weeks which was long enough to feel significantly better than I had at 4 weeks.
I also wanted to reassure you that with very minimal physio input (Covid times so phone calls were all that was available) and some pelvic floor exercises I can barely feel it now. Physio said we could try a thing to insert, to hold things in place if needed, but I never felt it necessary.
However I should say my DS has just turned 2 and it was a long, gradual recovery so don’t expect it to be sorted overnight. After a few months it stopped bothering me, DH has always said he could never tell and my only issue now is that I can’t really do much running or high impact sport. But I never have time to anyway with two children 😂
I know it’s hard, but try to be patient. I always remember someone saying to me years ago “it takes 9 months to grow a baby, so wait 9 months for your body to get back to normal!”

Thank you that’s really reassuring maybe I need to be more patient and see how things are, carry on with the exercises and maybe invest in the toner machine

It's been a long time since you posted this but I was wondering if you had any updates on it? As I'm in the exact same situation...

@Kaylina i have a stage 1 uterine prolapse, I do pelvic floor exercises daily and I’m looking into non surgical vaginal tightening, it’s not at the entrance of my vagina but a finger in if that makes sense so sorry to sound gross.
