Keeping the bugs out when the windows are open?

Has anyone seen any propper screen doors and window screens in the U.K.?

I like to have doors and windows open in the summer, but we live near a forest so get lots of flying insects, but DS is phobic of them indoors (and they are annoying).

I have been using some mesh that you velcro to the window frames, but it looks messy.

Any ideas? Other countries seem to have solutions (proper screen doors etc) but there is nothing I can find here.

How do you keep the air flowing but the bugs out?

In the olden days those plastic strips in doorways you can still get them. We had a zapper machine because hens, geese, ducks attracted many of the buggers. Kept it in the kitchen above cupboard

I made some 'Flat Cats' ( mesh screens to keep the kittens in) and they have the bonus of keeping bugs out

I go the silicon mesh and velcro off of Ammazon

Oh that’s a good idea! For some reason I only thought about having the windows wide open, so have the mess all over the whole opening which looks messy.

Just doing it at the edges is genius!

@justasking111 yes I did think about getting one of the multicoloured strips for the back door. I rather like them.

New Blinds do a proper roller midge / fly screen that are quite easy to fit , we have them on all of our windows as my daughter is very anti bug / fly / wasp .

I genuinely don't understand why the mesh looks messy to you, unless you haven't been cutting it down to size for each window. I have mesh on most of my windows and it's barely even visible. Only bothers me if I want to stick my head out.

When we moved in, close to lakes and lots of quite stagnant water, we first had mesh panels made up by the people who had made the secondary double glazing, which worked well.

Since having the windows replaced, I've been looking for alternatives, would be very interested in a mesh roller blind which did not need a cassette to run smoothly.

Yes I've only ot the mesh over the two window openings either side

I believe you can get a fly screen kit from Aldi/Amazon that is essentially net curtain and stick in velcro
