How & where do you store your toilet cleaning cloths/sponges etc?

I need new ideas. I don't like hanging the cloth on the back of the outflow pipe, it looks untidy. So I've been using a dedicated box but the cloth goes mouldy in a closed box. What do you do?

I don't use a cloth or brush to clean the toilet, only (flushable) wipes and some breach

RollOnWinter · 10/07/2022 16:46

Obviously, I mean bleach

Forgot the quote, but yes, loo cleaning cloths are all yellow.

Pink for the sink,
Blue for the loo,
Green for the clean,
yellow for dusting!

@ShirleyPhallus

Hmmm... sounds a bit pricey.

We don't bathe or shower so our 3 year old bathroom is still brand spanking new.

We clean our teeth with cheroots which we spit out into the food caddy and we shit in the woods.

If we have guests then we stare at the stains after they leave then go and watch telly.

We've moved into a Travelodge. I don't want my house getting dirty.

(Full disclosure: nicked from Ellie & Natasia).

MuddlingThroughLifeLittleByLittle · 10/07/2022 17:12

I use a cloth once then in machine. I actually use white face cloths as cloths so they dont go out of shape. (we have no white ones for personal use) use once into wash

BertieBotts · 10/07/2022 17:14

I don't store them, they go straight in the wash. When clean and dry all the cleaning cloths are stored in a drawer with the tea towels.

Loo brush for the loo. It has its own holder tucked in beside/behind the loo.

Sponge for bath and basin dries out in a small caddy in a cupboard in the bathroom where I keep cleaning stuff and the plunger.

I mop the floor using a squeegee plus microfiber cloth which goes into the laundry basket after rinsing and wringing out. When dry, the bathroom cloths go into the bathroom cupboard.

HarmALlama · 10/07/2022 17:16

I leave the sponge on the pipe thing behind the loo.

Use wipes and then just throw them away , and put bleach in your toilet

This….the thought of toilet cloths makes me heave

I have a silicone brush it's amazing . I don't really understand how you clean your loo without one.

FlipFlops4Me · 10/07/2022 17:32

They get washed and disinfected after being used. Once dry they go back up to the bathroom and live on that bit of the U-Bend before it goes into the wall.

FlipFlops4Me · 10/07/2022 17:33

I do have a loo brush. It gets dunked in the "dirty bucket" in very, very hot water and disinfectant once a week. On other days I spray it with that Neutradol disinfectant spray.

BurbageBrook · 10/07/2022 17:35

God I wouldn’t leave toilet cleaning cloths hanging around. Gross. I leave bleach to clean the toilet then wipe with loo roll and flush. Also use a J cloth then throw away, or kitchen roll before throwing away. I know it’s not environmentally friendly but it’s disgusting to have a dirty cloth in your bathroom.

As others have said, I don't understand why you'd use a cloth to clean the toilet bowl. Understand wiping around the seat with one, which could then go straight into the wash.

I clean the actual toilet bowl with a silicon brush. Easy to clean with and to clean it.

A580Hojas · 10/07/2022 17:47

I clean the toilet bowl with pine toilet cleaner and the seat and lid with Method bathroom spray or something cheaper if we are tightening our belts. The seat and lid get wiped down with kitchen paper (usually 2 sheets is sufficient) which gets thrown away. I won't use those plastic wipes.

BurbageBrook · 10/07/2022 17:49

Yes I meant I clean the seat etc with a cloth i then throw away. Everyday bowl cleaning is with toilet paper and bleach. If you just leave bleach in the toilet and then wipe around with loo paper and flush there is no need to scrub. I don’t want a poo infested stick in my bathroom.

Ronnyrambler · 04/05/2023 08:53

For those that use a sponge or cloth do you wash it with other things? I do a weekly tea towel, hand towel, bath mat wash at a high temperature and wondering if it's ok to wash them together. Seems a waste of energy to put them on their own cycle. Hopefully safe to wash together above 60 (or even 90?). What do you think?

newnamethanks · 04/05/2023 08:58

Silicon brush. Don't use cloths, I use paper and flush it. I wouldn't keep a cloth that been used to clean the loo.

Tidsleytiddy · 04/05/2023 09:03

Flash disinfectant wipes for toilet that then go straight in bin (don’t flush them!) and bleach and toilet duck under the rim or sometimes do under the rim with Flash wipe
