Gave our*

Perfectlystill · 09/07/2022 15:04

No! Didn't occur to me!

Wouldloveanother · 09/07/2022 15:04

Well, it’s a different world from when I was a kid. Money for SATS?!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 09/07/2022 15:09

Yes, not loads just a bit for doing so well and a day trip to celebrate. This was few years ago tho. Lots of DC friends parents did the same.

rainbowandglitter · 09/07/2022 15:09

No. Didn't even enter my head.

GreenLeavesRustling · 09/07/2022 15:12

Nope

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 09/07/2022 15:14

We gave our DD a small necklace that she had mentioned a few weeks before in passing that she loved.

Sprig1 · 09/07/2022 15:14

No

KylieCharlene · 09/07/2022 15:15

Nope.
I see the 'gift' as the choice of new bag, pencil cases, pens, new water bottle, designer trainers, shoes, coat, gym bag etc- all ready for secondary school!.
DD has expensive taste and I can't afford to buy a gift on top of all that.

forrestgreen · 09/07/2022 15:18

Nope, I think we did a day out with friends. Park or zoo etc

Makinglists · 09/07/2022 15:21

On top of the limo (most kids in our city do this) and party on the last day!?! - nope. Ours is getting McDonald's for tea for a good report - that's it

TrogLaDyte · 09/07/2022 16:02

We were planning to let her get her ears pierced if she still wants to. But then I need to think of something for DS!

LetsPlayShadowlands · 09/07/2022 16:04

Mine is still in early primary. I'm giving a gift as a well done for getting a good report and working hard all year. Was it the done thing when I was a kid? No, at least not in my family. But I want to do it. If you want to, do it :) there'll always be people who judge whatever you do or don't do.

Shitscared123 · 09/07/2022 16:12

I organised for each child to draw a portrait of themselves and had them printed on a mug for each one. He got one too, and he appreciated I did that for him and his friends. I won’t be buying anything else.

Shitscared123 · 09/07/2022 16:13

*each child in his class

easyday · 09/07/2022 23:03

Uh no. Though they did get a mobile phone at Christmas after starting Y7. But no didn't occur to me to give them a present just for leaving primary.

TheChosenTwo · 09/07/2022 23:09

No. Neither did I give money for my dc passing GCSEs!

OnlyTheBravest · 10/07/2022 01:10

A nice family meal but the school gave them a great couple of last weeks and a fab leavers assembly.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 10/07/2022 04:07

Cold hard cash!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 10/07/2022 04:09

Each year I should have mentioned.

VegetablesAreMyFriends · 10/07/2022 04:49

Well, this one has a party bus and meal out with friends. I thought that was lavish.
The older DC's didn't have anything other than what school organised.

HoppingPavlova · 10/07/2022 05:01

Nope. When mine were at school they had a ‘passing out parade’ type thing in front of the rest of the school and parents who could make it. Then the school gave a bit of a send off celebration (low key, think sausage sizzle or pizzas for lunch). I can’t imagine what more kids would need really for what is a normal developmental transition?

It goes to show why we are seeing young adults come through who want thanks/a prize for perfectly normal things that are expected from them as standard. Mind boggling.

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 10/07/2022 05:04

No… is this a thing? We are letting her have an end of term bbq with some friends to play, and she has had loads of stuff through school.

changzi · 10/07/2022 06:08

I'm sorry... most kids in your city ride in a limo to celebrate finishing primary school???
