Does anyone know what this unusual utensil is?

In this month's magazine The English Home.

I have tried googling but cannot find it. (The second from left- with the little key like screw).

It looks gloriously useless and I love it!

I figure MNetters easily provide all answers relating to life and the universe. :)

Placemarking because I have no idea and I love a good kitchen gadget.

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 13:36

Yep- bone holder!! That is it. Let me download some pics

It's for holding a meat bone like a chicken leg. Apparently it called a "wild meat clamp".

Is it for holding a bone on a joint of meat for carving? Like lamb shank.

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 13:39

Oh the caption did not save - but yes french lamb bone holder.

@Amipreg1 wins! Thanks!

Yes I could do with that in my life.

(And I love the idea of intimidating the odd guest as well to boot. Grin )

Sorry- by the time I had googled and posted others had also posted with the answer! Thank you all. :)

That is a pretty nice piece of kit. And going by the fact I have never used my icecream maker probably more useful to me than certain other gadgets I do own.

Rubbish. It's clearly a dinglehopper. Obvs 😂

Takingthepmaybe · 09/07/2022 13:50

and have finally identified what is causing my ongoing life dissatisfaction. Ordered. Thanks OP.

(but still need further information on far left)

LizzieMacQueen · 09/07/2022 13:51

It looks like it should be in the bedroom frankly. If you're into a bit of BDSM that is

That's what I was going to suggest.

I think the 1st item may be a gravy ladle rather than a consommé one?

DogInATent · 09/07/2022 14:10

The one on the left is a gravy spoon.

I know I should know what the inert fork and spoon on the right are. It's not caviar, but it's something like that which would react with silver and taint.

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 14:18

gravy ladle! Of course!

I am being unneccessarily thrown by the placement of said items on the page and am automatically going from the outside in and trying to marry them up to courses.

When I was little we always used bone/horn spoons to eat eggs but we didn't have matching forks.

takeitandleaveit · 09/07/2022 14:33

Dinglehopper it is then.

Henceforth. 😂

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 14:39

Love it. :)

Turns out ebay is awash with the things (Including a robust and impressive Cristofle one).

I am not sure I can resist.....

DH opines that the bone inert cutlery might be used for very acid foods. So maybe a fruit salad?

You're on the right lines.

But it's actually a tool to remove a cock lodger from the house. It's attached while they sleep and then used to drag them outside in the morning.

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 14:43

(Incidentally I also googled porridge spurtle and now I have another thing I covet greatly).

Staffy1 · 09/07/2022 14:56

Which one, the sideways spoon or the weird thing next to it?

SummerLobelia · 09/07/2022 15:00

The bone holder thing is the wierd thing with the screw. The sideways spoon is it seems a gravy ladle.

TBH i am now discovering a never-before-expected obsession with odd and vintage cutlery. (DH has 4 complete sets of silver-plate canteens but nothing nearly as interesting as this)

I've been attempting to minimise kitchen utensils, but I must say I could give space to one of these 🤔

Does it help your dingles to hop or stop your dingles from hopping?
