Rising cost of energy

I'm sorry as I imagine there is already a million threads similar to this.

I just read another thread saying energy prices are going to rise by 60% in October
Is this true? Is there something I don't understand about it?
I haven't had time to check myself and i cant stop crying as stupid as it sounds.
I split with my partner last month. I work full time and am currently waiting for UC to confirm how much I'm entitled too. I have a detailed budget on a spread sheet and am cutting back more and more to make sure i can afford to support me and my daughter but i just cant afford an increase like this.
Is it true? Is there more I can do?
I'm a 30 year old woman and I'm frightened. I'm not that bright and suffer with moderate anxiety, earning more would be a struggle. I don't know how I can support my family.
Any words of advice are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I know it's scary, particularly when you're trying to figure out how to do it alone but you will be OK.

Have you used an online calculator to work out a ballpark figure for universal credit? You can actually get quite a lot, particularly if renting, even on a good wage.

Is your ex paying maintenance? Make sure you claim through CMS if you are the resident parent.

What tariff is your electric on currently? If you are fixed then you won't see the increase until the fixed period ends.

Keep an eye on what Money Saving Expert is saying. There's signposting to help to cope with the cost and also energy saving advice to reduce what you use.

Careful with fixes, some are very expensive, even more so than what the price cap will go up to.

If you're on universal credit you will get some help with the cost, I think its £650, but I don't know if this is instead of or in addition to the £400 that everyone is getting. But hopefully they might increase this now its known prices are likely to go up even more than previously thought.

I'm sorry you're so worried, I totally understand why Brew. It is frightening, especially because the Tories do just too little in response every time.

Remember to prioritise your rent and council tax, the priority is keeping your home.

There is a lot of help on Money Saving Expert, the forums are really good for ideas.
