Rinsing rice to use later

Making a biriyani for supper. Have washed the rice already and plan to use it in 2/3 hours. Will it be OK? Shall I refrigerate?

I know advice is to chill rice quickly AFTER cooking, but not sure about protocol when rinsing beforehand.

I'm horrified that people do not rinse rice. Basmati needs rinising and soaking for 30mins minimum ideally an hour. You will have the tastiest fluffiest rice

It doesn't 'need' it.

Sure, you get a better result, but honestly, if you don't have the time, it will cook and be perfectly edible without it.

Being Asian, I was always taught to rinse rice before cooking.

DH who isn't Asian, once cooked rice without rinsing it first, and I can tell because it tasted chalky.

It just tastes so much better if you give it a good rinse beforehand.

Just for fun, check out this video on how not to cook rice.

That's why people in many Asian countries use rice cooker. Rinse it, soak in water, and rice will be cooked perfectly at the time you want it to be done. Edible rice isn't good enough for some people.

And that's fine, they can so their rice however they want. But the posts on here that are basically telling people what they should be doing, and being 'horrified' that not everyone does are just plain daft.

ALWAYS rinse rice (I soak in cold water for a bit too)

No it doesn’t need to go in the fridge.

I always rinse rice to get rid of the starch and stickiness. Soaking it will make it much nicer but I always forget to make time for this.

You're meant to rinse to remove naturally occuring arsenic...or something.

I don't, I use I cup of rice to 2 cups of boiling water, lid on and simmer until the water has gone. Don't stir. Turn off and put a folded tea towel under the lid and leave for about ten minutes. Lovely fluffy rice.

Ds shares a house with an Asian friend, he rinses rice as his friend taught him.

I rinsed my rice tonight and it cooked and tasted much better. I never usually bother but I definitely will from now on

Rice is absolutely filthy unless you rinse it. Can't believe so many people didn't know that.
