Can you buy... OTC in Germany

In trying to get her to be sensible about taking a sunflower type medical lanyard & medical letter with her & being open about her piercings when going through airport security, I've inadvertently scared my DD out of taking her prescription pain killers on her holiday to Berlin next week🤦🏻‍♀️.

So can I please ask .... Can cocodamol be bought over the counter in Germany

Thank you

You can but only 8mg tablets and I imagine hers are stronger than that? Also in Germany it very much is over the counter - you have to go to a pharmacy and ask for pretty much all medicines (you can’t buy paracetamol in the supermarket like you can here!) so if she doesn’t speak German she might want to write down some phrases to take with her.

Thank you @TuftyMarmoset, that's really helpful. She's still refusing to carry cocodamol through the airport 🤦🏻‍♀️, but at least she knows she can buy something if she needs it, hopefully she wont🤞Great info on paracetamol too as she wasn't going to take that either, but she will now thanks to your post

Glad to be helpful. She needs to look out for a proper pharmacy (Apotheke) rather than a Drogerie like DM or Müller - they look like Boots or Superdrug but don’t sell pharmaceuticals. An Apotheke will have a sign that’s like a red A.

OTC drugs are expensive in Germany, might be worth warning her.

My daughter got ill in Germany and I had to go and buy some paracetamol. It was over 5 euros for 16 tablets!

ChaToilLeam · 08/07/2022 18:40

Much better to take it with you. Even the simplest OTC medicines are €€€ in Germany and only available at pharmacies, which is why I bring stacks of cheap medicine back from the UK when I visit.

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated

I'll definitely show her this. She's gone from being too blasé about going through airport security looking very alternative with body piercings & anxiety, thinking the best approach was just to March through & not warn them about her piercings & then likely visibly panic if they stop her 🤦🏻‍♀️, to being too anxious to take any meds through Confused
