To think average height is not accurate?

I think now in the UK you hear that average height for men is around 5'10. Surely it is likely to be less as average is not really representative of the whole male population? I do not understand why median is not used instead of average. Would you say the median height for men would be less in the UK around 5'9?

The same can be said about income as well median is also a better indicator.

They are all at my niece's netball club in Surrey. Sixteen year old girls, the shortest is 6ft!😂

There are bits of the Midlands where I used to feel like a giant.

Haha oh God, I'm only 5ft 5 and was shocking at netball at school, the thought of playing it with 6 footers 😬😂

DH is 5'11 and he feels pretty average so I'd say 5'10 isn't too far off. Teens are definitely getting taller - I'm 5'3 and felt pretty average when I was at school (I'm 35) and now I'm a teacher all the pupils seem to tower over me! I definitely feel short when at work!

Height follows a normal distribution; so mean and median will be close.
