do you purchase Apple Care?

Over the years I have purchased and not purchased, and can't say it ever really helped me. The few issues I have had were not really dealt with too well.
Would like to hear experiences.

Only if spending 4 or 5 k plus on a computer. For phones and cheaper laptops it’s not worth it. You could always buy via John Lewis. They do 2 years, right? And apple does 1?

ConfusedParticle · 07/07/2022 20:16

Ah, good idea. I'm after a new phone, will have a peep at JL..
Thanks.

No, you still only get the standard Apple warranty.

LondonQueen · 07/07/2022 20:17

I never bother, it's quite cheap to get a replacement screen etc these days.

Acaseofthemondays · 07/07/2022 20:19

Website says 2 year guarantee ?

ConfusedParticle · 07/07/2022 20:23

JL says three yrs apple care free.

Shit, sorry, three months for a phone, not 3 years!

I've just looked and they just have changed it since I purchased one, I will be buying my next phone from JL!

LondonQueen · 07/07/2022 20:27

*must

ImAvingOops · 07/07/2022 20:27

I bought from apple because they claimed to give a 2 year warranty but it doesn't cover batteries (for phones) because they argue that a phone which only holds charge for a few hours isnt a 'failed' battery.
So don't rely on the warranty to cover everything

Tryingtokeepgoing · 07/07/2022 20:27

No, for the same reason I don’t by extended warranties on stuff. Why insure something you could afford to repair/replace yourself…by the time you’ve insured everything you’ll be paying more than just replacing / repairing when needed. On the accidental damage front, household contents insurance will cover most stuff.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 07/07/2022 20:29

Nope, we have a bank account that includes phone insurance.

catpoppet · 07/07/2022 20:33

honestly these days it's not worth buying apple. Service awful, products made not to last or be easily fixable (extortionate costs to repair, soldered in battery so cannot be easily replaced, no RAM upgrades possible in computers etc) I'ts really not worth it!!! As an apple customer for years I have finally had enough. You can pay half the price for something future proof that is not apple, and does everything. Hope people wake up at some point.

I did for my watch as it was quite easy to damage it, I also did for my iMac as it was comparatively cheap for a computer, I didn't for my phone or iPad as they are kept in a case and I am careful and it was quite expensive, I guess because damage is quite common. I usually buy from John Lewis to get the extra years guarantee.

ConfusedParticle · 07/07/2022 20:43

Agree about the iMac, I need to update mine as it's 14 yrs old. I tend not to use it for much though nowadays, and it is stupidly expensive.

I suspect they are planning to phase the iMac's out, the large screen already gone..

interesting.
I have issues with them. For instance, the lowest priced iMac doesn't have any USB 3 ports, which many of us still use, especially artists. Funnily enough they DO include them on the two more expensive models. It is definitely a deliberate attempt to force us to pay more. Why bother offering the cheaper one at all?

Like I am going to pay an extra £600 for a couple of usb ports.

No, I always buy second hand Apple devices.

ImAvingOops · 07/07/2022 22:52

DDs phone battery lasted less than 2 years before needing replacement one. I think that's shot for a phone which cost hundreds of pounds. I had a basic huawei that I'd had for 3 years and the battery was still going strong.
I have an apple now and it's handy for face time and Apple Pay but I don't think it's worth what it cost. Tempted to go back to android when it needs replacing because I'm really pushed off about degradation of the battery life. I feel ripped off.
