What have we done?

Moved from old house (which we loved but was rented) and bought new house closer to DD school but am I don't like this house or area no where near as much.

I did like the house at first as it was a good price for what we got an has a big farmhouse kitchen but much prefer the rented one.

Do we stay and stick it out ? Do we have any stories from people who didn't like house when moved but come to like it? TIA

It's fine. Just needs redecorating

youngestisapsycho · 07/07/2022 14:22

Re decorate and move the kitchen table from right in front of the oven!

Are those real photos? They look like computer images.

I assumed they were the ones from the EA ?

canyoutoleratethis · 07/07/2022 14:25

Is this some weird house stealth brag, because you seem to be upset you now own property and from the looks of the photos, a quite large, perfectly good property. I don't get it? Yes the decor is a bit much, but that's just lipstick, and easily changed. If you want us to tell you how beautiful your new house is and how well you've done buying it, then just ask next time

lurker69 · 07/07/2022 14:35

i have hated every house when i moved into it, it just feels weird.. like its not yours! where we are now i thought i would hate it forever, as the months went by and i put my stamp on it bit by bit it started to feel like home!

Gem8701 · 07/07/2022 14:35

Yes those are from EA. @JellyBellyNelly its a big clock on the ledge LOL.

I guess i didnt realise how much actually needed doing before we moved it, it all needs decorating, new windows, doors, decking so thats quite a lot, where as the rented one was just how we liked it. Also this one the area is not as nice, its a bit rougher.

@canyoutoleratethis No not at all, just wanted honest opinions.

They really do look like computer generated iinteriors, especially the curtains in the living room.

Gem8701 · 07/07/2022 14:35

@lurker69 I really hope I will feel the same.

But if that is the case then it will look very different now, with the op's furnishings.

Lakeyloo · 07/07/2022 14:38

Just a thought, reading all of these comments....... I really hope the OP didn't redecorate this house BEFORE they moved in 😬😳

Bollindger · 07/07/2022 14:38

Can you think of it as the House has gone up in value so much this year your actually living rent free.

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 07/07/2022 14:38

The op says that they are the estate agent's photos, so not the op's decorating style. No idea why the photos look fake though. Is this what EA do these days?

Gem8701 · 07/07/2022 14:42

@Lakeyloo No haha - looking at redecorating very soon!

@Cameronnorrieisabitofalright Whats a dcat?

Didn't all that come up in the survey?

We moved in 2014 for more room and investment, to an estate very closeby we'd always had our eyes on. We've had ongoing problems with part of the house, which didn't help and DH hates the lack of a view. Neighbours are nice but we left fantastic neighbours. Hard to put a word on it, but it's not our old property even though that is no longer right for us. It was renovated four years before we moved in and not much needed doing for us, other than painting a few rooms, so we haven't put our mark on it. We can't afford to buy what we'd really like anyway, so now is the time to really make it into ours. Just painted our bedroom and I'm doing another room next month. We're thinking about a new bathroom. If we did move, we could end up regretting that as we do have flexible living space, road is quiet, it feels safe here.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 07/07/2022 14:52

Don't think I've ever seen a house with a Minions colour scheme before...

But that's literally the only bad thing I can see, and that can be solved :)

MiniPiccolo · 07/07/2022 15:02

Oh god that bathroom. Change the accessories!

Well yes

thriftyhen · 07/07/2022 15:27

I think if you redecorated, you might feel better about it. The thing I really don't like is having the table so squashed in between the two rows of units, particularly so near to the oven, so I would want to sort that out.

The last house we bought, I didn't particularly like when we bought it, but it had huge potential and we extended and completely reconfigured it. I still didn't like it when we sold it, although looking back at the EA photos we did a fabulous job and it meant it gave us the money to buy the lovely house that we're living in now.

I think if the area is wrong, you may never love it, but could you stay there while your DD is at school with a view to move on when she has left? And in most cases, buying is always better than renting.

knittingaddict · 07/07/2022 15:33

MiniPiccolo · 07/07/2022 15:02

I'm assuming those accessories have long gome, since this is the previous owner's stuff. I don't know why we are seeing the old photos because that isn't an accurate representation of how it looks now. This is odd.

CatrinVennastin · 07/07/2022 15:37

@Gem8701 if I was you I would paint all the walls white and make it into a blank canvas. Then with all your stuff in there it should feel more like it’s yours.

the current decor is a bit full on in terms of colours.

UrricanesArdlyHeverAppen · 07/07/2022 15:37

It looks lovely and bright.

It probably doesn’t feel as nice as your own house because it doesn’t feel like home yet. You’ll get looking just how you like it and before you know it, you’ll have that lovely feeling.

And if it never comes, then you’re on the housing ladder, so look at it as a short term house and the best way to finance your forever home.

No. It’s not a clock on a ledge. The bedroom that has the green wallpaper and green bedding. To the right of the window, on the wall, there’s a thing or a crucifix on the wall.
