Boris voters: On a scale of 1 to 10 how upset are you that he has resigned?

Just that!
If you voted for him in the last GE are you sad to see him go?
Are you glad you voted him in or have you changed your mind about him over the years?

They did didn’t they?
For many it made no difference at all what name was on the ballot paper, who the local candidate was.
Many people voted for whichever local candidate would result in a win for Johnson.

Exactly. Anyone who truly believes that voters vote for the local candidate is deluded.

Kowloondairy · 07/07/2022 19:40

Will never vote for the Conservative party again. An MP is supposed to vote on issue’s concerning the country, they were threatening not to support him in any future votes , therefore they are not putting their constituents or the country first, they are basing their opinions on personality. There is not one MP from any party in government who has never and I mean never done anything wrong or lied to get where they wanted. I cannot believe that this country has gone down the road of personality politics. Shame on them.

cottagegardenflower · 07/07/2022 19:40

SnowyLamb · 07/07/2022 19:43

Every Tory who's spoken today has basically admitted they knew he was a lying cheating scumbag not really up to the job, but that they supported him because he could win an election. People absolutely did vote for Boris, whichever constituency they were in.

EntertainingandFactual · 07/07/2022 19:45

I’ve just asked my friend who the local Conservative candidate was in the GE. (My friend voted for him).
His response… ‘I can’t remember his name, He was a Conservative though’.
I think he might have used his vote to get Johnson into No.10 like many others!

Swathes of people voted Tory because Boris said ‘get Brexit done’ (and talking of fucking circuses, don’t let’s go there). It is pedantic and naive to think he got in following people voting for their local MP. A vast proportion of the electorate don’t even read the manifestos let alone think about local issues. They vote for, or against, the leader’s sound bites. Corbyn was too truthful. Boris has lied his way in and out of government. Tears are being shed here, not because he’s going, but for the mindset of so many voters that allowed this to happen, and are STILL defending his dishonesty, disregard for the ordinary person and sheer fucking arrogance which have fucked the country I once loved. Cannot wait to get out now.

Not even that much

I am sorry to see him go. I am not his fan but I am trying to look at this objectively. Credit where it's due. He saw the biggest vaccination drive through. He didn't keep us in lockdowns forever like the Australian and New Zealand prime ministers. He helped millions of households get on during the pandemic. He delivered brexit. He is far better than many leaders anywhere in the world.

Anyone who is calling him a liar should do a reality check and see if they never lied in their lives.

This is a media sponsored takedown of the government. The British media's sole interest of late is hunting for weaknesses in every leader and hitting them hard and repeatedly until they give in. They think they win but they destabilise the nation.

You may be a liar, but the majority of people actually are honest. I am. Johnson lies in a way that is clearly disordered.

Runnerbeansflower · 08/07/2022 06:02

Brexit isn't 'delivered' until someone squares the circle of no border in Ireland (as per Good Friday Agreement) while simultaneously having no border between Northern Ireland and mainland Britain, and also having a border between the UK and the EU because we're no longer in the EU.

Runnerbeansflower · 08/07/2022 06:06

Few people lie so easily and frequently as BJ. Partly because most people do have a conscience but also because most of us experience negative consequences for lying.

Fuck me, there's a huge difference between the occasional white lie in your personal life and the kind of repeated destructive lying Boris does to the people he's there to serve.

Even in politics the outright lie is unusual. They twist things or avoid the question, but blatant lying is still rare.

Thistlelass · 08/07/2022 06:35

The man is a bare faced liar and had to go. We have suffered the buffoon for too long.

Ifailed · 08/07/2022 06:57

The Vaccine programme was delivered by the NHS, most countries didn't follow the Australian/NZ model, many other countries had support packages, they were not Boris' idea. Brexit was going to happen come what may due to the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, passed under Theresa May.
Boris will quite happily take the credit for anything (see so-called Boris Bikes in London), the reality is that he actually delivers very little.

Loads of people voted Tory because of Bojo and I doubt all of them gave much thought to the credentials of the MP they voted for so it’s a bit pernickety to keep mentioning Uxbridge & South Ruislip.

It’s a fair and interesting question. I assume people like(d) him for reasons other than his integrity and competence and therefore may still support him as PM.

Agree with this.

You only have to watch the news reports to see how many people voted Tory for Johnson to get Brexit done.

Lots of those feel let down by him, many feel he should go too.

I will admit I voted for Tory and I'm not a Tory voter. However I didn't want Corbyn, was a reminder and was fed up of the stalemate on Brexit and respect demographic votes so wanted it done.

I won't vote Tory again because Braverman is my MP and a) she's useless anyway and b) her overwhelming loyalty to Johnson over clear breaches of rules makes her unfit to govern imo.

Pinklimey · 08/07/2022 07:37

See this is the thing that I hate about our bloody political system. If I'm voting, it has sod all to do with who is at the top of the party. The person I am voting for is my representative. I never like whoever is at the top of any of the parties and think they can get to fuck if they think I am voting for them.

Sartre · 08/07/2022 10:09

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/07/2022 12:23

You are mixing up the PM with the Tory party. Only the voters in his constituency voted him in. The next GE isn’t due for a couple of years so Boris’s exit might not make that much difference.

You’re deluded if you think people don’t vote for the leader rather than party. Plenty of life long Labour supporters voted Tory for the first time in 2019 because they liked Boris, simple as that. Or they didn’t like Corbyn.

DH works with people who literally voted for Bojo because they thought he was funny.

Pinklimey · 07/07/2022 11:40

I am devastated.

not really, just took me back to the happy days at Primary school when one of the receptionists ran into our classroom so we could all listen to Thatcher resign on the radio.

When you say 'one of the receptionists' do you mean a teacher of a reception class and did he/she tell the children why you were wanting to listen to Mrs. Thatcher resigning and did you teach primary school children that Mrs. Thatcher was bad and everyone in the Labour party was very good?

Like most politicians, Mrs. T and BJ did some good things, some bad things.

wellhelloitsme · 08/07/2022 10:34

Oh yes because this is the same as a PM repeatedly and often convincingly lying to the public he is supposed to represent, champion and support through policy.

Completely the same as Dave down the road shagging Barbara and lying about it...

Or Max stealing a Mars Bar when he was a teenager and saying he didn't...

Or Susan telling her mate she was feeling poorly but really just couldn't be arsed to go to the cinema...

Definitely the same as lying to the public and your colleagues when you're Prime Minister. Not.

ivykaty44 · 08/07/2022 10:35

We are the laughing stock of the western world, Johnson is a laughing stock and it’s embarrassing

he now is clinging on to office even after resigning, jyst to have another ducking party planned for chequers later in the summer 🤦‍♀️

I might lie in a personal situation to avoid upsetting someone or to avoid a social event I don't want to do, but never, ever in my professional life because I know the consequences if/when I'm found out.

I agree.
You simply cannot function professionally if everything you say is a lie.
I have one manager who seems to think that telling half truths, skirting around the truth and telling outright lies is ok. He doesn’t seem to realise that people talk to each other and know that he’s bullshitting.
It’s pathetic.

I think some of the more defensive posters have slunk away!
I didn’t have a motive when I started this thread but it seems to hit a nerve with some!
I think it’s ok to change your mind about someone (or not).
