When we have lots of children with us we go into town by the borough gardens and pop into the metro supermarket to pick up ice creams in boxes to carry to the park. The park is 2 mins walk and we easily save £10-£15 at todays prices. The price of a lolly from a kiosk at the park is £££

Talking of highly inflated prices, the price of a posh sausage roll yesterday..... £4.99
It wasn't even that big, but probably the best I've tasted so I think I may ignore the price just this once.

It was £5 for a cornetto and a 99 here (rural East Mids) last weekend, the cone was £3 but to be fair it was a good size. Nearly as big as toddler DD's head! But I did think it was quite pricey for the area and not something we could do very often. Fortunately they don't come to our village so it's only when we venture nearer civilisation that it matters.

Fedupmum21 · 06/07/2022 17:01

£2.20 for small and £2.60 for large cone or tub, which includes a flake and choice of sauce where I am. Looks like we have a bargain for once lol (I live in a small tourist village in the highlands, fuel well over £2 a litre for fuel so nice to know our ice cream is cheap 🙈)

ThreeRingCircus · 06/07/2022 17:06

Went to an ice cream van at the park the other day......cone with flake was £4. Even a solero was £3! I'll be buying from the shop in future.

LadyLothbrook · 06/07/2022 17:26

I have three vans. We charge £1.80 for a single cone with flake. We have lots of happy regular customers who keep asking if we are gonna inflate our prices.

Glittertwins · 06/07/2022 17:26

£3.50 for a single cone and flake here too

Irridescantshimmmer · 06/07/2022 17:27

What?
Take out a mortgage!

That is bizarre and I have never experienced that with Mr Whippy. In fact the opposite, they're usually melting as soon as you pick them up!

There's a little ice cream place near us which has been open over 50 years. They make their own ice cream and charge £1.60 for a scoop and 20p for each additional scoop. The scoops are smaller than you might get from a fancy gelato place, but just right for little kids. It's always packed in the summer 🙂

You'd think that this would mean that the quality was worst but its the more expensive mix that keeps its shape and takes longer to melt. The cheap uth stuff melts all over as soon as its pulled. A firm ice cream means better quality.

Sorry my reply was to @SpotlessMind88

I mentioned this on the shocking price rises thread!

I bought the DC and I "99s" from the ice cream van at the park. £10.50 for 3 99s!!!! Not a 99 then, is it?! The amount of ice cream he put on the cone was pitiful as well!

Daylight robbery, should wear a mask and a striped jumper!

It's a similar price for a huge ice cream at the local ice cream parlour but the portions are huge and the waffle cones are massive! They have every flavour you could possibly think of - much more value for money!

Toddlerteaplease · 06/07/2022 17:44

I had a sundae for £3 with two flakes yesterday.

etulosba · 06/07/2022 18:52

Not a 99 then, is it?

Apparently, 99 is the name Cadbury’s gave to the short flake back in 1930 or thereabouts.

It’s nothing to do with the price.

QuebecBagnet · 06/07/2022 19:00

It’ll be £99 before long the way we’re going.

My dad would have been saying 60 shillings ! 🤣

Eviebeans · 06/07/2022 20:16

Was really surprised and pleased that a whippy ice cream cone with flake and sauce was £1.50 from the ice cream van who comes round our area

Pruella · 06/07/2022 20:17

Not a van but a stand in a shopping centre. £7 for a single cone with a macaron on top. I felt like I’ve turned into my mother, could not believe it!

Notbluepeter · 06/07/2022 20:27

Maybe it's because there have been shortages of sunflower oil? The whippy ice-cream is just blitzed up oil really.

CheeryPinkQuail · 11/04/2025 08:39

I think that a ice cream cone with a flake should be like 1.00 or 1.50 each

HelenWheels · 11/04/2025 08:44

i like an icecream from an Italian restaurant, or gelato ?
but i dont like Mr Whippy
do they no longer do 99s then?
that is day light robbery!

TrafficCones · 11/04/2025 08:47

Yes I do this it’s £3 for a little pot (single scoop) at the shop by the beach. Save myself a fortune by just stopping at the shop on the way and buying six for a couple of quid.
