Taking my 8 year old to London soon and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places to visit or things to do beside the usual tourist attractions

We're taking dc 8 and 10 to London this summer. They've never been. We plan to take a walk around and show them Buckingham Palace, big Ben etc on the day we arrive. We've booked free tickets for the imperial war museum and then the tower of London the following day. Cant wait to take them. I think they may be a bit shocked, we live in a quiet West Wales Village, so the hussle and bustle will be something new to them!

We’re local to corams fields and they got the pool running at the minute. It’s lovely for little ones

The Unicorn on Tooley St is a children's theatre that has great shows for all ages.

@Hm2020
Sorry to hijack - is it every day? What timing? Last time I visited the other week it wasn't on

mileenderr · 07/07/2022 20:54

If you're keen for the theatre, the Matilda lottery is a good shout. Good chance of winning (at least based on my own experience and a few friends) and you get amazing seats for £25

@minipie sorry to hijack but would sky garden be ok for a 5 year old and a 7 year on a Sunday afternoon?

God no. Skygarden is shit. Yeah it's free but it's a piss poor attempt at a bit of tropical landscaping surrounding 2 expensive bar/cafes. Kids will be bored shitless inside 5 minutes, if that.

Another nice thing to do if you want to stop off for a regroup and, often importantly - the loo! is the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
You can go up to the terrace and look over the piazza and see some costumes and ephemera on display. Nice little shop too. (You don't have to have a ticket for a show is open to all). Also they do free tours if you want a more detailed trip.

Have a look on their website for free events.

There's free mini golf at Canary Wharf

There's a karting track in one of the car parks.

And summer lights is on too.
