“Babes in arms” go free… but what age is that up to?!

Under 1? Or 18 months?

Does it mean if they can't walk? Hmm

liveforsummer · 06/07/2022 12:50

Babies that can't walk id assume. Will sit on a knee and not take an extra space on something

LizBennet · 06/07/2022 12:51

Dunno 🤔
My 2 walked at 17 months and 11 months, I'd have been clueless 😂

BiscoffSundae · 06/07/2022 12:51

I would say babies that can’t walk but 18 months or under will be fine

ZiaMcnab · 06/07/2022 12:54

I'd say babies that can't propel themselves at all, i.e. no crawlers, so probably 6 months or younger, certainly no older than 1. I think the reason those are free is they can't do any damage or disturb anything at all, iyswim.

likeaprayingmantis · 06/07/2022 12:56

literally babies that have to be in your arms because they can’t sit up alone/ crawl etc

SunshineAndFizz · 06/07/2022 12:58

Yeah I'd probably say those who can't sit up/crawl/walk.

SheWoreYellow · 06/07/2022 12:59

Generally those that won’t be using the facilities, whatever they are.

IncompleteSenten · 06/07/2022 13:00

I've always thought that to be under 6 months

Actually, I agree with this - ones that are so teeny they can't even grab a passing stranger's hair or whatever! So definitely under 6 months

BiscoffSundae · 06/07/2022 13:00

6m? 🤣 cineworld says babes in arms are 18 months or under.

How old are “babes in arms”?
Greenginghamdress · 06/07/2022 13:18

I would have guessed at up to 6 months

ShirleyPhallus · 06/07/2022 13:21

Depends on what for:
someone else’s wedding: 6 months
Something like a tourist attraction: as old as they can be for you to get away with it, maybe 18 months?!

Findahouse21 · 06/07/2022 13:23

Wish my 'babe' would get out of my arms sometimes! She's 2.5 and demands to be carried around, my arms ache!!

FelicityRelaxington · 06/07/2022 13:24

At a book festial I counted my eldest as this when they were 18 months or so. Basically if they're going to sit on your lap and not need a seat of their own, imo.

A little aside-several women came up to me afterwards to tell me how beautifully behaved my child was, when they'd expected it to have been awful to be sat near!

Svara · 06/07/2022 13:31

I'd say under two when they still fit comfortably on your lap or in a sling if up and about. Not needing their own seat.

Svara · 06/07/2022 13:38

Don't understand how it could be six months, unless of course it's a baby/toddler activity. They are hardly going to be crawling around the floor and few would sit still in their own seat before 18 months, they usually are in your arms.

ReeseWitherfork · 06/07/2022 13:48

Quite the range!

It’s a Christmas show in a theatre. Fancied taking 3YO DS. DT will be 8 months.

DS was walking at 9 months and pretty feral by about 12 so he definitely wasn’t a “babe in arms” for very long!

If I email the theatre and they say 6 months then I won’t go (not one to knowingly break rules) but if I don’t know and take them and get away with it then happy days.

@BiscoffSundae I’m a bit worried about your dying battery!

I was going to say before they can walk. In this instance defo go!

KweenieBeanz · 06/07/2022 14:07

Can't believe people are suggesting 18mths, an 18mth old is a toddler and most people would be pretty annoyed if someone rocked up with a toddler to for eg their wedding because they said babes in arms were ok 🤔 to me 'babes in arms' refers to tiny babies who literally can't be apart from mum due to feeding requirements, and are likely to be mostly asleep as newborns, so under 6 months. For something like a theatre I wouldn't take an 8 month old purely because there's a really high chance they will last about 6 mins before disrupting things for everyone else whether it's a kids show or not, and if people have paid for tickets it doesn't feel fair to disrupt things

Yodaisawally · 06/07/2022 14:18

Babes in arms are not Mobile at all ie most likely won't be a pita for other customers

Yeah if someone rocked up to my wedding with an 18 month old I’d be a little bit annoyed, they’d need feeding, their own seat, own space, own noise etc etc at that age

mrsm43s · 06/07/2022 14:26

At a theatre, I would assume it is whether or not they need their own seat, with probably an upper limit of 12 months-ish.

Can you have both DTs on your lap and be comfortable and keep them quiet/engaged for the whole show? And keep them contained so they're not prodding/pulling at/disturbing the people sitting next to you? I'd say that was quite a tall order at 8mths tbh. I think I'd try to get a sitter for the DTs and take DS for a treat just for him.

Chewbecca · 06/07/2022 14:29

For a theatre, I would say it's a baby who doesn't need their own seat, so 8m old should be fine IMO.

BiscoffSundae · 06/07/2022 14:29

It’s not a wedding though hence the babies in arms FREE so no one is commenting on a wedding most places that would be age 2/18m
