Good natured prank ideas?

I take care of a platonic friends apartment while he is abroad every summer (water plants, mail) and have gotten in the habit of pranking him every year. Past pranks are things like hiding clean, new dogs bones behind cushions in his couch and bed (he hates dogs especially mine), leaving cans of dog food in his pantry, I bought a weird creepy banana-man dog from amazing and his it under the cover of his bed. Bought some prank matchbooks and mixed in with what he has….really silly stuff. He pretends to hate it butt he really loves it because he tells everyone and most of the things I have done over the years are now on a shelf, not tossed.

I asked my carer to check out the bathroom for a leak.

He came back threatening to beat me up with the Leek in his hand.

Does he have a PC / laptop he leaves at home? Control, alt and and a down arrow will turn the display upside down.

You can also move a couple of keys around on a keyboard, it's best done with a not very often used key eg Alt key - even better if the display is up side down.

Buy a pack of plastic cups and put about an inch of water in each and lay them out in the hall as you leave.

Most fridges and freezers you can put the door on to open either to the left or right. Which ever way his opens put it the opposite way.

Sign him up to sponsor a puppy, a guide dog, hearing dog, other assistance dog he will get 'pupdates' throughout the year.

Cress his carpet.

Only joking, I hate pranks.

But a smiling dog-face on his bedroom ceiling would be funny.

How can you hate pranks?! Good natured ones are hilarious!

Fill his shower cubicle or smallest room with blown up balloons. Cling film his toilet.
wrap up every cooking utensil in tinfoil.

If he has door handles as opposed to knobs, take them off and turn them upside down- so to open them they need to be lifted up, rather than pressed down.

Shit in his bed!

Not really, obviously!

I like the idea of texting him that you think he may have a leak in the bathroom and then leaving a leak on the toilet.

A photo of a dog on the underside of his toilet seat so when he lifts it, the dog is there might be fun.

I love the googly eyes one! I do a similar favour for some mates and am considering these ideas for next time I'm house sitting

There is a huge difference between a mean or destructive prank (some of these are on the line) and totally
begnign ones (my dog photoshopped into pictures, bone everywhere, my dog smiling from the ceiling or loo!
I already ordered googly eyes and that will absolutely be happening. I think Itnis the attention and the surprise—we have done it for a long time now and if I can not seen how prominent some of my little things are at his place I might not have believed how much delight it brings him. I had dinner with a mutual old
friemd at his and he recounted so many with such fondness. It is so light-hearted and sweet really. I love these ideas and hope some others of you have a little fun. Life can be heavy and it is fun to put googly eyes on an egg!

I think it's two things. One is that at it's heart, a prank relies on laughing because someone is ignorant of something. Which is sort of always mean. And the other is laughing at, not with.

I agree that something like the google eyes is adorable and I would love that. Not because it's a prank, but because anthropomorphism is just cool.

I may just be scarred from having an older brother. And male friends growing up.

Are you sure he loves it? Well, I suppose he can't mind too much if he's asking you to house sit.

I have always found prank mentality interesting. What makes you want to play these pranks? What do you get out of it and what do you enjoy about the whole planning and executing the prank process? I have always felt it quite a repressed thing to do but fully admit that I don't get it.

I think you should do the photoshop one.
That is clever and will take a while to find potentially.
And won't upset him with his frugal ways etc.

@weatheredwood @MrsTerryPratchett

I have been thinking about this since I read these posts earlier in the day.

why do we tell children there is a Santa Claus? Total exploitation of their naïveté , but the delight, right?

I would not do 75% of the pranks suggested here, even though some are clever or would be funny. I included good-natured in the title. My friend is gay and I never do pranks related to things where there might be a vulnerability. But I drive this friend to the airport, take care of his apartment, stock his fridge with basics, and pick him up when he returns. Neither of us have family here and there is absolutely a sense of surrogate sibling ribbing between us and I think we do both enjoy it.

every time he gets in my car, when I am doing him a favor, he Makes a huge deal that it seems like dog and that he will get hair on him. I tell him the smell is him and the hairs are grays from his head. Then we laugh. A fridge full of googly eyes, a think a snake in a can, pickle flavored ice pops, and his head on a photo of me kissing my dog are likely to be this years little pranks and I think coming home to that makes you feel that someone was thinking of you my and took the time to delight you a little. We are both school teachers so maybe immature? I don’t know. I really do just think sometimes we should do things because they are just fun and none of the things I would do are mean.
