Embarrassing problem

Ok I'm aware this is anonymous but I still feel so embarrassed posting this but I'm at my wits end.
My vagina smells fishy! I've had a baby 7 months ago and about 2 months ago I started smelling very bad, a month after that my period returned and I thought ok maybe it was hormones but since then the smells returned and nothing I do gets rid of it.
So I know everyone is going to say its BV! I have done 5 tests for BV and all came back negative, 3 of the tests were from somewhere they were doing research into BV so they were 3 different types of tests.
I use rephresh and caneston every month but the smell still comes back.
I'm on probiotics and I don't have much sugar in my diet at all, I do have lots of Greek yoghurt.
I cant get an appointment at the gp yet but has anyone got any idea what else I might try?
I have had BV once before many many years ago and that was cleared up with antibiotics.

Not sure if this has been suggested but I get this and it's bacterial vaginosis... I get treatment from my doctor

@Bonbon21 I've had 5 tests in total that ruled out BV

Oh okay 🥴 sorry

Did you have any stitches put in when you gave birth? I had 3 stitches with dc1 and got terrible smelling discharge after about 3 months. Multiple tests came back negative, was told to adjust diet etc. Then after suffering for about 5 months I felt something odd down there, investigated and removed an absolutely rotten stitch that had worked it’s way out. The smell and discharge disappeared immediately.

Nothing stuck up my vag! Sadly for me, nothing has been up there since I got pregnant!!!
And not stitches as I had a c sec and those stitches have fully dissolved

Could it be trichomoniasis? I'd get myself to whatever version of an STD clinic you have in the UK. Your GP sounds hopeless - what sort of advice is it to wait it out? Wait for what? I presume he didn't whip out a speculum and actually examine you.

I know it sounds horrible but I got a bit of tampon stuck up me once when I was about 20 and that caused a smell. Luckily it fell out by itself soon after I noticed. So it could be that. Scared me off using tampons 😩

Apologies, I missed that you had a c section. I think you should still insist on seeing a doctor for a proper investigation. It could be a bit of something not fully expelled that’s causing the smell that could lead to a nasty infection.

scarletisjustred · 07/07/2022 10:39

Vaginal swabs and surgical tampons (larger than normal tampons) are used to absorb fluids in several procedures in delivery suites and surgical theatres on maternity wards. They are intended to be removed once a procedure is over. I'd be wanting to find out if you had any retained swabs or surgical tampons as it does happen. So you might not have put a tampon in, but you could have a tampon or swab up there regardless if they mucked up the count or whatever. You really do need to be properly examined.

I had a friend who had this, she showered twice a day, the doctor told her she was cleaning down there too much and it was upsetting the pH levels resulting in the smell.
I hope you get it sorted, best wishes 💐
