I don't have that many people to talk about this to in real life apart from DH. Our DD who has just turned 12 has just been admitted to our local hospital for a 3 week refeeding programme, bless her little heart. She's never been away from us for more than a night, I feel so sad for her but we are just not getting anywhere at home.

hi @DancingHorse really sorry to hear that. No words of wisdom I'm afraid but didn't want to read and run. So very young you must be worried sick 😢sending love x

Thankyou, yes we're worried sick really, it's been going on for over a year now with lots of Camhs and hospital appointments etc but we're just not really equipped to deal with it ourselves. Poor DD, she's a quiet girl really, sensitive, but fiendishly clever and headstrong, my heart just bleeds for her as its robbing her of her enjoyment of life. Fucking bastard illness.

Bastard illness 💐

Big gentle squeeze for you, such a tough thing for you all to go through. I hope she gets the help she needs there.

Squills · 04/07/2022 16:42

It may not seem like it at the moment but it's a good thing that your daughter is getting the help she needs. As I'm sure you're aware, getting in-patient care for any mental illness is very difficult. Try to be positive. The fact that she is in a local hospital is good... I expect you will be able to visit often.

Good luck!

janesmithsdog · 04/07/2022 16:44

Bless you all, that is tough. Make sure you take some time over the next three weeks to try and build your own strength up won’t you, I imagine you’re pretty depleted 💐

OP my DD had was ill for 8 years with anorexia including 2 lengthy hospital admissions. She is very well & happy now. I remember being so relieved when she was admitted the first time because I felt, despite all our efforts, we were not able to help her. Good luck to her and to you Flowers

wonderingwanderer2 · 04/07/2022 17:12

OP, I'm so sorry to hear this. I was hospitalised for anorexia as a teen and, whilst I hated every second of it, now I am well I can see it undoubtedly saved my life. It's so positive that she's getting treatment so young - early intervention is so important for full recovery. Please feel free to message me if you'd like some support. Sending hugs

Mariposista · 04/07/2022 17:21

All the best OP. It’s a horrid disease but you have done well by her and she is now getting the treatment she needs.

DancingHorse · 04/07/2022 17:24

Thankyou so much for your messages. I work at the hospital and am trying to avoid taking any time off so planning to to see her on lunch breaks and after work - I'm not sure if that is going to work in reality! We have been pushing for an admission for a while as we have just been stuck in a rut with it all but the fact that she has lost weight again recently has meant they've said she can go in. I've got 100% trust in the people looking after her, they're so kind but they will be militant also which is what she needs!

She is in the best place now then when she's released follow the plan completely. My dd wasn't hospitalised as not anorexia (it's complicated) but completely stopped eating and was on a drip, the positive news is that 6 months of coaxing to eat paid off and she now eats ok, not well but at least one proper meal and is eating junk again. Best wishes to her

Aquilegia23 · 04/07/2022 17:29

I'm sorry you are going through this. Anorexia is a very complex illness. It's not simply a case of getting food into a person, it's a mental health issue too. But she is in the best place to access treatment. I hope she is having counselling to deal with it, as well as physical treatment.

DancingHorse · 04/07/2022 17:39

She is, we have paid for her to see someone who specialises in anxiety as well as seeing camhs thing is as long as she isn't eating properly no amount of therapy is going to help it seems 😩

How worrying for you all but hopefully she will get the help she needs and deserves, bless her.
Sending positive thoughts 🌷

skybluee · 04/07/2022 17:58

Going into hospital for treatment for anorexia changed my life. Nothing had helped until that point. She is in the best possible place. Good luck.

DancingHorse · 04/07/2022 20:52

I'm so reassured by those of you that are saying it has helped ❤️❤️

Peterbear · 04/07/2022 20:58

She's in the best place - lots of luck to you all. It's a bugger of an illness.xxx

Sending you loads of positive vibes & so much strength to your DD. Anorexia is the most horrible thieving illness.
