Has your toddler ever done anything REALLY weird?

My daughter is two and a half. Due to extreme prematurity, a very long stay in hospital and lockdowns etc she has significant developmental delay and doesn't really talk. She can say two words, but not always in context.

I was just in the living room with her and she was sitting by my feet playing. Suddenly, she looked up towards the kitchen window, burst out laughing, waved at the window, said "BEAR!" and then looked at me excitedly, pointing towards the window. The window looks out onto the back garden. For reference, pretty much most things get called "bear" these days as it's a new word she has learned to say.

I looked immediately and there was nothing there 😳

I know young children can have active imaginations etc. I also wonder if she might have seen a bird out there. But I'd be lying if I said it hadn't freaked me out a little!

Has your toddler ever done anything which has made you go.... 🤔🤯

Maybe she saw a bee or a butterfly :)

My toddler refused to go in our living room for several days "because there's a naughty badger living in there" and then one day she announced the badger was gone, and was happy to return to the room.

Maybe! I forgot to mention that when she burst out laughing and waved, she blew a kiss too.

Whilst I was typing that OP, I put a half-eaten biscuit down on my lap and she just swiped off with it. That'll teach me 🤣

My little person also had significant delays and toddled over to the piano at about 20 months and picked out a tune with one tiny finger. I’m glad I was slacking on the phone to my mum or I’d have been totally freaked out.

DS1 turned to me one day when he was about three and said "Mummy, when I was in your tummy, I saw your soul." Then he just went back to his game Confused

He might have been older actually because 3 seems very young to know the word soul. I just remember telling people about it because it was creepy 😂

Yes! He didn't really speak for 2 years then came out with this:

When DS was about 4 he drew a really detailed picture of us - him / me / dad in graves outside our house - complete with gravestones
When I didn't look delighted he asked why I wasn't happy with it as he had given us a grace each!

It was about two weeks after David Bowie's death. I was cuddling with DS, age 3, neither of us speaking when out of nowhere, he said, very clearly and distinctly, "Black...Black Star"
Me: Why did you say that, DS?
DS: We saw that man, didn't we?
🤨

Only Bowie fans might be freaked by this 😁

When DS was very little, he'd clearly focus on something and start laughing. A few times in a cafe I thought he was responding to someone behind me, but every time there was nothing there. Must have been a stage as my friends reported the same with their babies.

I caught mine licking the wheely bin once but I think that’s a different sort of weird!

Squiff70 · 04/07/2022 18:14

These are all amazing! I'd love to know what's going on in their sweet little heads when things like this happen!

Keep sharing please!

I think that's quite normal actually. My daughter spent the first 8 months of her life in hospital. When she was about 5-6 months old, she'd lie in the hospital cot in our private room, look at the ceiling like she was watching something and just laugh. I remember crying at one point as I thought something was seriously wrong but apparently lots of babies do it who turn out to be perfectly healthy. I don't understand it, but...!

Minr left a bucket of snails on my bedside table and I didnt realise for 6 hours 😨😨

Today my DS said 'mommy has a baby in tummy'. (I dont). I was freaked out until older DS told me he had read about it in a book to toddler. (It was a childrens encyclopedia)
