...
If you had to recommend one book to buy as a paperback to read on the beach or by the pool this summer, which would you recommend?

if you want a book to change your mindset and thinking then definitely The Miracle Morning, such a brilliant book and really enlightening. Not great if you want a fiction book to get lost in though, although I did binge it 😀

Really enjoying House of Glass by Hadley Freeman

Cedarfire · 04/07/2022 07:11

Where the crawdads sing by Delia Owens, it’s absolutely delightful and thoroughly absorbing.

Normal People by Sally Rooney. Saw the limited series and then got the book. Delicious!

MissRainbowBrite · 04/07/2022 07:13

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - didn't expect to enjoy it but got really into it, a brilliant poolside read.

Another vote for Where the Crawdads Sing. Didnt want it to end.

WarriorN · 04/07/2022 07:47

🤣 op's username v the question posed is classic!

Another vote for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

My other favourite books are A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Josephine Bonaparte Trilogy by Sandra Gulland. The last one is a definite case of don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Real binge reads.

KenAdams · 04/07/2022 07:49

Where the Crawdads Sing. I'm listening to it and I can't stop, it's amazing.

beguilingeyes · 04/07/2022 07:52

I'm reading The Dust That Falls From Dreams (what a title!) by Louis De Bernieres at the moment. It's lovely.

I agree. I loved that book

Haus1234 · 04/07/2022 07:53

Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead, it’s SO good.

Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead

Where the Crawdads Sing is one of the worst books I’ve ever read so personally avoid that!

TeenDivided · 04/07/2022 08:07

Thursday Murder Club.

Life After Life.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/07/2022 08:13

Any of Natasha Pulley's novels. Maybe start with The Watchmaker of Filigree Street, as its her first and the others call back to it.

TheChosenTwo · 04/07/2022 08:20

I’ve read a few of these and have got several others mentioned here lined up - just need a summer holiday and a pool to lie by now 😂

OMGOMGOMGHELP · 04/07/2022 08:28

@WarriorN 😂😂I did post something else when I first used this name!

@AperolWhore any books are good, doesn't have to be fiction. Preferably something re-readable.

[wondering how many books I need to buy before DH agrees to a new Kindle!]

But what do you like to read? There’s no point recommendations if your tastes lie elsewhere. (I thought Where the Crawdads Sing was a big folksy cliché, for example. )

UnalliterativeGeorge · 04/07/2022 08:29

The Queen of bloody everything by Joanna Nadin

OMGOMGOMGHELP · 04/07/2022 08:37

But what do you like to read?

I tend towards historical fiction, but it's a long time since I've read anything new. Totally uninspired by the "recommended for you because you bought" lists and am looking for something different. Not looking for gore, scariness or psychological horror or anything like that. Something pleasant to read on a lovely summers day.

Tracy Chevalier for historical fiction

The girl with the louding voice, couldn’t put it down.

CormoranStrike · 04/07/2022 08:55

I really enjoyed How to Kill Your Family
