Not sure what you're asking?

MinglingFlamingo · 03/07/2022 22:06

Ask on the telly addicts Wimbledon thread! They are a very knowledgeable bunch when it comes to Wimbledon.

I am sooo jealous

I've been, if you can give me a bit more of an idea of what info you're after/what you'd like to know, I can try to answer.

I'm not at all cool, so can't comment on what the cool folk do.
If people watching means spotting famous people or tennis players, you'll see some famous people in the Royal box when you're in your seat, depending on where your seat is. You might also see them near you in the "normal" stands - last year Jimmy Carr and Rob Bryden were sitting in the row in front of us.
Other places I've seen players or well known people are on the outside parts of the millennium building (to the left of Centre court on the maps of the All England club), on the balcony where the champion tends to shows off the trophy, at the south of Centre court, and in the media area by court 18.

I can't comment on sit down restaurants as I've never eaten in one, I usually buy food to takeaway from one of the various places which sell hot food, sandwiches, salads etc and eat it somewhere in the grounds. I suspect the main waiter service restaurant (Wingfield) is probably fully booked by now, but you could check the Wimbledon website just in case. Last year we ordered and afternoon tea for lunch, which was really nice
I think there is a self service restaurant in a, place called the Centenary garden, but not been there. And i think I read something about a seafood place new for this year.

There are bars where you can buy a drink and then either take it to your seat with you, or find a chair and table or bench or the Hill to drink it on.

Do explore all the grounds if you get chance before or after the final. They are beautiful, the grass courts, the flowers, the ivy/Virginia creeper on Centre court.

Just remembered the practice courts at rhe North end of the grounds where you can watch players practice. Though on finals day they often practice on one of the outside courts so if you get there early enough, keep your eyes peeled for a large crowd of people around and outside court to see a finalist close up.

And most importantly, enjoy the tennis and enjoy Centre court. It's a wonderful venue which oozes history and for me there is nothing better than an afternoon and evening there watching tennis.

megletthesecond · 03/07/2022 23:11

Yes, in 2003, wonderful day out. It wasn't that fancy tbh. Lots of people in jeans, including us.
They had giant sized Pimms which was nice.....

RichardMarxisinnocent · 03/07/2022 23:21

Also, wear comfy footwear! If you're at the back of centre court there's a lot of steps to get up there, and even if not you may well walk further than you expect.

Went in 2018 for mens final

It was VERY expensive so take plenty of money
You can only leave your seat at certain times during the match
Didn't see any slebs

Wimbledon has gone cashless so no need to take cash, just a card for an account which has plenty of money in it.

TomAllenWife · 03/07/2022 23:37

@RichardMarxisinnocent card then I just meant it's expensive so a bottomless bank account is good

Been in 2003 and 2007. Match starts at 2pm, but be there soon after gates open so that you can enjoy the grounds plus matches on the outside courts (wheelchair, veterans, juniors).
Do stay on Centre for the Ladies' Doubles final - but if you do leave early, make sure you get your ticket scanned on exit so that it can be offered to someone in the resale queue.

This year, don't forget your photo ID, or you won't get in.

Unless your seats are very far back, you will need a hat as the sun can be fierce when sitting. Take an empty water bottle that you can fill up with drinking water (lots of taps).
As suggested, comfy shoes & nobody cares what you wear - just be weather appropriate.

Check the Wimbledon website for all the info, inc re food outlets. Most of us go for the tennis, so we eat on the run whenever convenient to fit around play.
And nobody goes to look at "celebs"!
