Bringing plant cuttings back to UK

I’m in Indonesia at the moment on holiday and have seen a lovely plant at the hotel I’m staying at. I mentioned to the staff that I would love to have the same plant at home and they kindly gifted me a cutting to take home with me when I’m back to the UK. My question is; would I be breaking any laws by wrapping the plant up safely in my suitcase and bringing it back home?

Yes you would.

and risking our native species too.

Don’t do it!

The short answer is no. They could bring in diseases that might devastate native species.

*sorry yes - I misremembered how you had phrased your question.

Find out what the plant is and see if you can find one once you're back.

Don't do it!!

Can you use a plant ID app to find out what it is, and buy it here? Or put a picture on here, and I'm sure someone on MN can ID it for you.

So it’s illegal?

thanks for the heads up. I’ll see if I can get one in the UK.

A few years ago I got a parcel in the post from MIL. I opened it to find various plant cuttings from Croatia, wrapped in wet kitchen towel in sandwich bags! I was pretty surprised, thanked for for them then through them on the fire!
