I have been monitoring prices and in January this cost 70 pence. Crazy prices.

Did I hear that Tesco is refusing to stock Heinz macaroni cheese because it’s too expensive? I couldn’t see it last week. It has more than doubled in price. 🤬

Soup :

4 big leeks
An onion
4 bug spuds (yellow)
Big chunk of butter, splash of oil
Garlic
Chicken stock
Water

Made about 8 tins worth of leek and potato soup, cost about £3 to make.

I'm a big fan of making soups. Last night's was carrot and coriander - maybe a 1/4 of a bag of the 35p misshapen carrots from Sainsbury and 1/6 of a packet of coriander. 1 stock pot. Cost pennies each. I also make a huge post of veggie soup with whatever is in the fridge and needing used up . There is nothing like a Heinz tin of tomato soup though!

I honestly think I shop cheaper than many of you using M&S - I buy their soups and loads of 3 for £8 on chicken and fish stuff and a ton of yellow sticker stuff for freezer

£1.99 for Isigny POD Butter in Aldi
its beautiful (only 250g though)
and as a @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER said they do a West Country English one as well which is cheaper but also lovely

It's £1.99 for Aldi's 'basic' butter now...

TwoMonthsOff · 15/09/2022 18:11

@NewBootsAndRanty
I bought two night and surprised it is still £1.99 - best bargain in the shop

LOVE your username (I wonder if ‘Plaistow Patricia’ has been used yet ? 🤔, you just may have inspired me to name change ! )

Crisps and soup are a rip off. Soup is gruel like Oliver asked for more. Crisps need just two potatoes to make a six pack of plain crisps. There is absolutely no justification , for putting these out of pensioners reach, I can't and won't pay, better to starve them of profits, max price of pack of crisps has always been £1...heinz soup about 75p. Making an excuse short staffed, is nothing to do with price of a tin. I don't eat tomato soup so that's a none starter. I 9nly eat chicken soup. But heinz is pricing all flavours to £1.40, instead of lowering the price of some that don't need tomatos. Coke and Pepsi is the same, rarely buy it now, just can't afford £2.25 for a 2 litre plastic, instead of recycle glass I am happy to use like ln the seventies

Mistymountain · 03/11/2022 13:26

You can buy 8 for £6 on Ocado, so 75p a tin, a 7% increase since January, not great but better than a 100% increase.

Had to apply for a second mortgage to buy 2 tins of chicken soup. It's getting ridiculous
