Can someone help me understand these MRI results?

My daughter is 6 and has had some lumps appear on her legs. One on each shin bone and a newer one on her ankle bone. The shin bones were X-rayed and we were told it was soft tissue above the bone. The GP said they weren’t overly concerned but would send her to the local hospital for an ultrasound. The hospital did the ultrasound but said that they couldn’t say what the soft tissue was and needed to do an MRI and biopsy. The MRI happened the same day (about 10 days ago). We went for the biopsy on Thursday and I asked the doctor how the MRI looked. He said that they were looking at the relationship between the soft tissue and the other surrounding tissue and that it looked okay.

Im assuming this is positive, but what does it mean? I’m obviously worried about worst case scenario. I’m wondering if this news means I can worry less?

I live overseas so communication in a medical setting is just that bit more challenging, despite the doctor’s English being pretty good. unfortunately, my knowledge of the local language is basic just now. I just wondered if anyone here has any knowledge that could help me understand what he meant by that.

Thanks.

Well what were the results? Can you post some of what they said, maybe the conclusion to the report?

Stripesandspots5 · 02/07/2022 23:39

@RaisinGhost sorry, my thread title was misleading. I haven’t been given any written results. Only the brief conversation with the doctor whilst he was doing the biopsy. Sorry.

I would focus on this.

Really, until the results of the biopsy come back, that is where things stand.

Stripesandspots5 · 03/07/2022 06:59

Thank you @milkyaqua. but what does that actually mean? Does that mean it’s less likely to be serious?

Ok I might be wrong but I had a growth in my legs which shouldn’t have been there and had an mri. Following the mri they then knew it didn’t have a blood supply so were happy it wasn’t cancer. Maybe that’s what he meant by the relationship between the lumps and other tissue?

Stripesandspots5 · 03/07/2022 07:43

Thanks @QuebecBagnet. I totally appreciate that this might not be right, but it’s helpful. Thank you. It just feels like the longest time waiting for the biopsy results. It would be great if this is something positive, like in your case. 🙏🏻

Hope you get the results soon and it’s good news. My lump was actually inside the bone. They did say the majority of lumps aren’t cancer.

@QuebecBagnetI also don't know this and am not a medic. Buty understanding is that if things are benign, they tend to have near borders and not have the appear of growing into/invading surrounding tissue. From what they've said, I would guess that they look neat/smooth and non-invading. (And

Sorry wrong tag. Meant to tag @Stripesandspots5 not you @QuebecBagnet !

Also what @QuebecBagnet said sounds right to me!

Hope you get the all clear asap

GoodTomatoYield · 03/07/2022 08:54

NEAT borders not near borders. Sorry, this bloody phone...

Stripesandspots5 · 03/07/2022 10:07

Thank you so much @GoodTomatoYield! That sounds promising. 🙏🏻
