OMG the drama!
And if you think two days was so dreadful you really have NO clue.
My DP lost his Indian passport in the US on the 2nd June. He had to apply for a replacement via post to New York from Dallas, sending vast swathes of documents, all of which had to be notarised. The copying, notarising, submission and tracked delivery cost almost $100.
After a WEEK they notified him they were returning all of his documents, unprocessed, because two boxes out of three said New York, and one said Dallas.
He then resubmitted and was told it would take at LEAST three weeks. This was too long for his US visa and his flight, which only had two weeks left so he had to get an emergency travel document.
To do this he had to pay $300 to FLY to New York, pay to get NEW notarised copies of everything, make an appointment, go in - where he was told that because there were two weeks until his flight date he would have to come back in a week, because it wasn't yet an emergency.
So a week later he went back AGAIN, was finally allowed to apply, submitted everything, and was sent away and told to come back in three more days to collect it!
So that's $150 on printing, notaries, and postage, $300 on a flight, over $1000 on hotels/food etc, and a shit ton on public transport.
And you're complaining about £100 and 48 hours?! You have NO idea how privileged UK citizens are, you should be grateful it was only two days and £100!
And, at the end of the day, if you manage to lose the single most important document you are responsible for whilst travelling, that's YOUR fault. I told him that too.
Entitled much?!
