Mount Snowdon - Alone

Doing it next week but I'm slightly concerned as I'll be alone (female 37). Is it likely to be very populated? I worry about getting lost or injured and unable to flag for help etc... thinking of doing the Llanberis trail. Thanks 😊

If you do the Llanberis path you will definitely not be alone and would find it hard to get lost as it’s a well defined path.
Maybe take a more scenic route down like the Pyg or Miners track. You can then get a bus back to the car park.

If going alone, do the Llanberis path but aim to start early - mid morning at latest. That way, you'll have plenty of company on way up even if your pace is quite slow.

Path is very well marked. I found coming down harder than going up. Keep eye on weather, take lots of layers (more than you think you'll need), plus hat, gloves and waterproofs. You'll need plenty of water plus snacks, salted nuts and chocolate were a lifesaver.

I think halfway house cafe is open but not loos for some reason. Not sure about visitor centre at top.

Weather looks good next week so you'll be doing it with 1000's of others. Take a good suncream!

A weekend in July - it will be packed! Sometimes there are queues to get to the peak...

I climbed Snowdon on my own a couple of years ago. (Female mid-fifties.) There were so many people there was no chance of getting lost! Plus I found a lot of encouragement from other walkers. It is well-signposted. I did the Llanberis path too. Good luck! Hope you have a clear day and a good view from the summit.

Hafod Eryri is not open.

and the cafe at the halfway point do have toilets but they are not open.

Chakraleaf · 03/07/2022 09:02

It will be heaving

Llanberis path with be very busy, you'll be absolutely fine. Check the weather first, dress appropriately and try and be starting off by 9/10 ish.

I did it with my DS when he was 7. We had a great time.

Your main problem will be the queues. I’ve done it on a summer weekend before and it was like Piccadilly Circus. There won’t be any toilets open and it’s all pretty bare so nowhere easily to pop a squat either. I like to go up the Miners’ track and down the Llanberis path as the latter is quite long and boring to climb up, I find. I often park in Llanberis or at the park and ride there and get the bus up to Pen y Pass and walk up the Miners’ track, then walking down the Llanberis path and back to my car.

Enjoy!

is Snowdon a must do? There are some lovely loops you can do to avoid the crowds and you will see the same things. I live very close and avoid it over summer and weekends.

you could try Marchlyn loop Which covers Carnedd y Filiast, Mynydd Perfedd, Elidir Fawr (thats the peak of the Electric mountain (hydro power station) on in Llanberis and Marchlyn is the reservoir that the pump the water up and down to Llyn Peris) and Elidir Fach.

or Moel Eilio, Foel Gron, Foel Goch and down Bwlch Maesgwm. Start and finish in Llanberis.

I did the whole walk around Lake Bala yesterday, just under 12 miles. I'll be staying local today whilst the blisters heal but tomorrow open to suggestions. Considering the mountain but I am googling your ideas thank you!
