How Much Allowance For A 16 Year Old?

Hi

I need some help and ideas on how much allowance to give our 16 year old DD per week.

Need to take into consideration that she has M.E and experiences a lot of pain and fatigue.

She is at 6th form so juggling A levels and her illness with a job would be fairly difficult especially as she has to fit in at least 8 weeks work experience for the career she wants to do ( is doing 2 weeks work experience in her summer hols) .

We pay her phone and some clothes and pay for lunches and toiletries.

Would be really grateful for ideas.

Am aware that her friends are able to juggle 6th form and part time jobs and I don't want her to miss out on experiences with them . She is really hard working .

Thankyou all .

My dd of the same age gets £55 a month. I pay for pretty much everything on top eg phone, clothes, ubers. And obviously all the standard parenting stuff like bus fares, toiletries and lunches etc. She’s looking for a job atm bit also juggling pretty intense a-levels and volunteering, so it’s a balance.

My DD gets £50 a month, plus we pay for her phone, toiletries, lunches

Mine gets £100 but that's 20 college lunches, so roughly £60 on that and £40 for her. I don't change it in the holiday, but she will pay for her own outings, clothes etc with it

If you can afford it I would say £100 a month - you acknowledge she is hardworking and it is through no fault of her own that she can’t get a part time job.
My daughter has just turned 17 and works part time along with college. She budgets herself approx £100 a month out of her wages for socialising etc. I still cover Sanpro, toiletries etc in the weekly shop. Clothes come out of birthday/Christmas money or if I can afford it I will bung her some extra.
it would be different if she was a lazy arse but she isn’t- anything she hasn’t spent at the end of the month she should put into a separate saving account.
Having said that I don’t pay for my daughters phone - she pays the £15 a month herself.
I will be honest - unless finances are very tight I don’t think £50 is enough.

Would it be worth applying for PIP/DLA (not sure on ages for each) for her? Be prepared to appeal and keep appealing but if her condition affects her, it would be really helpful!

DD gets £25 a week allowance (£108 month) also I pay for toiletries , lunches, phone, bus pass , cinema tickets ( work perk) and any clothes she needs rather than just wants.
She also earns circa £400 a month at her part time job.

@N0va yes I have pondered on that - thankyou for raising that - not many people understand the impact it can have.
Especially the fact that it can cause so much joint and muscle pain.
