Pet hate - people posting a happy bday message on FB with accompanying flattering photo of themselves

..and birthday person usually looking less flattering. I see it all the time on FB, is it egotistical?

Egotistical or a total lack of awareness that it’s making themselves look like a vain chump!

It's nowhere near as bad as "Happy Heavenly Birthday to xxxx, 24 years since you left us blah blah blah" weird. They're not having a happy birthday. They're dead

SweetSakura · 01/07/2022 17:23

Totally agree. Very narcissistic. Just makes me think less of the person posting the picture

ComDummings · 01/07/2022 17:24

I find it quite funny. Usually it’s a picture of the poster at their own wedding so done up and looking stunning while the birthday person just looks alright.

DelosParks · 01/07/2022 17:25

Oh yes. Very enjoyable.

Or Happy Birthday to their own two year old. Or any two year old.

😂

or even worse the poor bday person photographed at a bad angle with their double chin and grey roots showing whilst the poster looks filtered. It is also comical how awful these posts are 🤣

Am sure the two year old scrolling through FB enjoys the sentiment 🤣

Someone I know posts a happy birthday post to themselves and then everyone comments. That's weirder

SnowyLamb · 01/07/2022 17:30

I got chased yesterday. "Didn't you see my FB message?" Chased publically on FB. As it happened I hadn't because I spent my birthday the days after in bed ill, but she'd only said "Happy Birthday x" . She hadn't even bothered finding a picture 😆

Tiredofthemadness · 01/07/2022 17:31

I had this come up on my phone this morning - 2 birthdays for people I know - and the only way I could wish them a Happy Birthday was with a photo of my hen night, with me in the forefront doing up my shoe, and the birthday girls not even in the pic (but they were there). Phone wouldn't let me wish them a HB without the pic, so I just didn't bother!

DelosParks · 01/07/2022 18:01

Ha! That's brilliant. 😂

appliecations · 01/07/2022 18:09

😂 The biggest bridezilla I’ve ever known does this.

APJ1 · 01/07/2022 18:56

I get annoyed when there's a photo captioned 'X's birthday party' or 'X and Y's wedding' but it's just a selfie or a pic with their own partner. It shows us absolutely nothing about the wedding/birthday party! They're just using someone else's special event for the usual FB compliments.

Noama · 01/07/2022 19:03

You think that’s bad. I have a family member who sends a Moonpig card to their nearest and dearest, all with pictures of them self on the front 😂
we always looks forward to a birthday just to see what awful card we have!

Hoolihan · 01/07/2022 19:05

One of my friends uses other people's bdays as an oh so subtle excuse to repost her own wedding photos. WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!

SpeedofaSloth · 01/07/2022 19:08

Totally agree with the "heavenly birthday" thing. See also: messages to DC not old enough for FB.

Or messages to elderly parents who are not on fb…

I scrolled through FB a few weeks ago and someone’s post caught my eye because there were multiple photos of her in various situations and I had no idea who she was. On closer inspection, whoever it was was writing a happy birthday message on the wall of a friend of mine - hence I could see the photos and message. If I zoomed in I could just about see the blurred shadow of my friend in some (but not all) of the photos. Clearly multiple close ups of someone else was intended as her birthday present.

Thack · 01/07/2022 19:30

The ones with photos of grandkids, without the grandparent who's birthday it is, really gets my goat.

SIL does this with MIL. I at least find a pic of her WITH my DC to say Happy Birthday Nanna 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️

JamesMartinsWaistcoat · 01/07/2022 19:32

Celebrities are awful for this behaviour.

Even worse though, is when another celebrity shuffles off this mortal coil and another celeb will take this opportunity to post a pic of themselves with the deceased, even if it's a picture that looks about 20 years old and you can tell they really didn't know them that well at all. Jesus, anything to stay relevant. Makes me cringe.
