Anyone about who could recommend a decent pen for writing on wood?

I'm trying to finish off a set of nursery rhyme spoons with their names, in acrylic paint and with a brush. It's not going well & I'm struggling to control the brush strokes enough to get clean letters 😢

Could anyone here recommend a pen I could purchase instead, to add lettering to them?

Tia!

Sharpies normally work ok.

Acrylic pens?

lucysmam · 01/07/2022 17:23

I've tried so far, on my tester spoon; acrylic marker, thin & thick sharpie and a fineliner I think is a gel pen & am about to try what I know is a gel pen. They're all bleeding so far.

I'll leave them as they are I think, I don't want to spoil them by using something I'm not happy with.

I think a Giotto decor pen would work. They work on pretty much everything.

I have some of those too, they bleed. I had to bleach a twinkle star out of my tester spoon that bled badly (maybe the Wilko spoons are the problem!)

Do you think burning their names on would work better?

lucysmam · 01/07/2022 17:35

It might do! But I've never done that & not sure I know anyone who could do it for me

Posca!

They're amazing, and give excellent coverage as well as neat lines.

I've used then on acrylic paintings to help with outlining as I struggle with fine brish manipulation and clear lines too.

They come in fine liners and small and large bullet tips.

Would recommend them everytime!

Posca paint pens !

Might it be worth trying to seal the wood in some way? My wooden spoons always seem to drink lots of oil if given the chance

lucysmam · 01/07/2022 19:42

I've just finished with half this week coming's wood slices (Rumble in the Jungle) so will look up Posca when I've showered.

I've messaged the only person I know who may be able to burn the names into them, or know someone who could do it for me. And I'll try varnishing my test spoon's handle in the morning, then write over it in what I already have.

Many thanks for all the suggestions, they're much aporeciated!

You can pick up a wood burning pen pretty cheaply if you ever fancy giving it a go yourself.

Someaddedsugar · 01/07/2022 19:53

@lucysmam would you share a photo of your spoons? I'm curious to see what they look like Smile

lucysmam · 01/07/2022 20:19

@Someaddedsugar I've added the ones I'm working on so far, for the end of term :) (the personalised one is edited out of the pic)

I've done loads this past year but not wanted to write on them.

Anyone about who could recommend a decent pen for writing on wood?

They're so cute!

calmlakes · 01/07/2022 20:25

They are very cute.

lucysmam · 01/07/2022 20:38

Thank you 😊I've really enjoyed creating them this year (& our HT has lots of spoons/slices ordered for next year too!)
