Does anyone sell photos as a sideline?

With the cost of lining going crazy, I’m thinking of ways to earn a bit of extra money, and although I work, I want to also have a little sideline going.
I thought about maybe selling photos I’ve taken, mainly scenic ones, which I’d frame.

I’m just wondering if anyone else does this kind of thing, and have you found it profitable?

*cost of living not lining!

Can we see examples of your work?

I have an Instagram account that's quite popular and I set up a Picsart shop and didn't manage to sell any. I think the market is oversaturated at the minute.

Everybody and their cat thinks they can do photography and tbh, if I wanted a photo of a place I love, I'd just take it myself.

This was asked by somebody (probably you) a matter of weeks ago. Go find your fodder elsewhere.

Agree with PP. Also if someone found a photo they liked online it's easy enough to save to device, print it for a few pennies using an online and have it delivered next day.

Fair enough

No it wasn’t me who asked before. And is there any need to be so vile to someone trying to find ways to earn money?

I think you would struggle to sell many/cover your costs unfortunately.

Was a professional photographer for 15 years. Mostly portraits tho.
Covid ended my last few regular school jobs. I don't really miss it as it's a hard way to make a living

But if it's a loved hobbie and your good. Try it ?

Warning tho it is very draining when you have a lovely photo
And the client doesn't like it. I had a beautiful picture of a child that won allme my qualification and the mother of the child didn't want it as she said she only wants pictures of her dd smiling. Very disheartening. Hope she regrets it now.

I bet the Mum does regret her decision now, your photo captured a moment in time of her child that she can’t get back. I’ve got a professional photo of my dd, taken when she’d thrown an unexpected but almighty tantrum (she was tiny though 😀), and she wouldn’t smile, but it’s a photo that we all love anyway!

Exactly!

EmmaH2022 · 01/07/2022 18:44

Interesting to hear that it's draining

OP I think it's probably like a lot of things - there'll be an element of luck.

But if you do it, I wouldn't spend money on frames. Are you thinking to male digital downloads available, or pics in different sizes? And maybe offer framing as an option? Would you frame them yourself?

EmmaH2022 · 01/07/2022 18:45

*make not male! 😂

justasmalltownmum · 01/07/2022 18:47

If you are a good photographer, you could make money being a photographer for "influencers".

This op isn't talking about erotic pics, scenic ones

OneCup · 01/07/2022 19:53

You can get loads for free online.
I think you'd have to go down the route of making portraits or weddings ... assuming you are any good! Another idea that comes to mind is school photos. The cheapest at our school is 40quid for one photo...

namechangeanonymous · 01/07/2022 20:04

If it's scenic photos then I very much apologise for my knee jerk response.
