If you work 16.5 hours a week, what hours do you do?

Applying for a new job, working week is 41.5 hours, generously less than the 42 standard 😀.
Ideal looking at max 40% and wondering how others work those 16.5 hours in a week. All at once? Split up?
I have 2 primary aged DC who don't have school on Wed and Fri afternoons. Finish at 3 otherwise. Commute would be 1 hour by train or 30 mins by car. DH can usually wfh once a week and MIL would cover one afternoon.

If this was me, I'd then opt for Monday and Tuesday or Thursday combo. Work 730-445pm,would mean home by 515-530 in time to collect from afterschool or mils. And oh the other day would have them. Then you fonthe other 3. Saves petrol and need for cover.

Are you in the UK? If so, avoid Mondays as you'll have to use some of your annual leave to cover some of them.

I'd work 8.5 Tues, and 8.5 Thurs to get them done in two days.

1 do 16 hours: 9-5 Tuesday and Thursday. It’s amazing

42 hours is NOT a standard working week. 37.5 hours is - a very handy way employers have subtly driven down pay is by slowly increasing the number of hours they are calling a standard week and people need to open their eyes to it! It's harder and harder for working parents to manage childcare drop offs and pickups, and acts as a barrier to women working, when companies' try and instigate a 42 hour working week as standard. First thing id be saying is no, a standard working week is 37.5 hours (9-5, with a 30 minute lunch break) so 15 hours = 2 days. I might offer 18-19 hours as 0.5 FTE.

A company paying the same for a 42hour week as a other is paying for a 37.5hour week is actually offering a substantially lower wage. Always compare the salaries by looking at the hours alongside.

do you not stop for lunch?

42 hours is NOT a standard working week
it is where I am.
And primary school hours are dependent on age and teacher and kids get sent home for lunch. It's a nightmare.
