Ideas for spending bonus

Cheerios257 · 29/06/2022 22:17

Hi all,

Very fortunate I know but I received an unexpected bonus in this month’s wage and I’d like some ideas on how to spend it?

Obviously the majority will be put aside for bills/household/rainy day but since it was to say thanks for my hard work, I’d like to spend a bit of it on myself. I just can’t think what to get…

I don’t need any technology- I enjoy podcasts/reading and already have a kindle/new headphones.

Would rather not spend it on clothes/shoes and I don’t really have any other hobbies other than reading (small DC so not a lot of time)

Any other ideas?

Don’t know how much you want to spend but you buy a piece of jewellery, I don’t mean £££ but some nice handmade earrings or necklace. I bought some silver and gold earrings last year for around £100, I wear them most days and a lovely gold necklace which is I had set with the birth stone of family that was £600.
other ideas, good quality wallet/purse
art work

tickets to a play/gig/show that you would never normally be able to justify. If the bonus is £££ then a weekend away to go with it. ?

I wouldn’t immediately go searching for something to spend it on. I’d separate it into an amount for saving and for spending, and put both into the bank, then wait until something I really wanted appeared in front of me.

GHD hairdryer!

Three grams of cocaine and a small flock of ducks to keep in the garden.

That’s what I spent my last bonus on.

How much is it, what have you coveted for ages and not been able to have? Relevant to know both of those things before advising.

Some bespoke jewellery like www.alisonmoore.co.uk/. A painting or photograph or tickets to a show or event.

Things don't really make me happy. I don't want or need things. I get happiness from feel-good stuff. So I recently spent my bonus on ordering 12 weeks of a food delivery box for a mate who is struggling. I told her I won it as a prize. And I slipped a few hundred to my cleaner as a 'thank you bonus'.

Set up an investment account for your kids?

Hawkins001 · 29/06/2022 23:00

Stock market perhaps ?

Some art? Family photos? Doing something lovely but frivolous to your home like redecorating a room just how you like it or buying a special piece of furniture. A spa trip?

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/06/2022 23:04

I wouldn't buy something just because, if there was nothing I wanted. Can you do something nice for you instead? Can DC's Dad take over for a Saturday while you go to a Spa, or to see a show, or a nice lunch / afternoon tea or whatever your preferred treat is?

This.

So when something comes along that you would really like but struggle to justify to yourself due to the cost - you will have the money there, and won't regret having spent it on something you aren't really yearning.

What that might be will depend on you - a gig / theatre / holiday / weekend break / sports tickets / a piece of jewellery ? Different things appeal to different people.

I've bought some art in the past. I look at it everyday and love it. Also love abd treated myself to the Alex Monroe bee necklace 🐝

Furries · 30/06/2022 01:59

Am assuming it’s money in your account, rather than a voucher with an expiry date? If so, I’d move it to my savings account and wait for something to arise that I REALLY want/need.

mrssunshinexxx · 30/06/2022 02:09

Dyson airwrap
Spa day/weekend
Tickets to see someone live

Gingerkittykat · 30/06/2022 03:18

How much have you got to spend on yourself?

Obviously, the answers are going to be very different if it is £100 or £1000.

BirdWatch · 30/06/2022 03:34

Maybe some art. Not sure how much you want to spend, but you will eventually see the perfect gift to yourself. Often when we went on vacation we tried to visit art or craft exhibits and saw lots of great art. I like oil and water paintings, glass art & textile art. I would love to get a stained glass window hanging.

Cheerios257 · 30/06/2022 06:46

Thanks for all the ideas - they’re really great!
Sorry, I should have mentioned I would like to spend £100-£150.
I’m liking the idea of a spa day to myself so my budget should cover that 😀

A bike - a very healthy way of having time away and very good for the well-being

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 30/06/2022 06:59

I would be at a book store so fast 😂
