Ideas for cheap but fun day out in London with 6 yo?

I’ve got a meeting in London at midday next month at the start of school hols and spouse and I have decided to take 6 up with us into London (half hour train ride away) but at a loss what to do!

we need to be back to pick up DD from nursery in home town by 530.

last time we took him to Nat hist museum and science museum. Any other ideas for this time round?

trying to keep costs low but still have fun. Have Tesco Clubcard vouchers to use in case that’s any use!

this would be 25th July - and any ideas most welcome!

I would love to go sea life centre I not think it is cheap but I would be very happy to spend a day there

Why on earth would you spend the day in a sea life centre when you have the whole of London to look round and enjoy? You can go to a sealife centre anywhere!

My kids have always loved the British Museum, especially once Night at The Museum had been released. They have Easter Island heads and mummies amongst other things.
They also love the Museum of childhood in Bethnal Green, marvelling at the toys I had as a child.

Transport museum is meant to be really good and then you can watch the street entertainers in Covent Garden. There is also Jill train there which do ice creams surrounded by candyfloss.

Use Oyster card / contactless to go on Thames clipper up the river.

I would vote for Princess Diana playground in Kensington Gardens. There's a cafe there's- then walk up to the Serpentine Lido with a big chlorinated paddling pool and have fun there. There's proper changing rooms and showers.

My other vote would be Transport Museum in Covent Garden - real trains and buses to get on board. And last time I went (admittedly a few years ago) the hands-on ticket machines in each section were a great hit.

London Transport Museum or the Postal Museum, both are smaller than the big South Kensington museums, easy to do in a couple of hours, and have special exhibitions on over the school holidays.

Tell that to my DD! She would live in the transport museum if she could I think 😂

I used to have to really brace myself to extract DS. And we went there quite often (the ticket - I forget if it’s the adult or child one you have to buy - is good for a whole year!). He also loved the performers in the lower courtyard (usually singers).

Had to HAD to. He’s almost 18 so we haven’t been for a while…
