Too good to be true?

DS1 recently started a new job after 3 years in a similar industry.

This is a relatively new company expanding very quickly - always a warning sign in my eyes

At interview they offered him a post more senior than the one he applied for. His experience was such that he probably should have been more ambitious and applied for the more senior post though.

Pay quite a lot more than similar roles with similar organisations in the area, possibly because they're expanding out of London and have stuck with the same salary scales. (madness or generous?)

He was trained at a branch 25 miles from home. All expenses paid for 3 weeks.

The new branch (his home branch) opened and he's had some lovely feedback from senior staff in the HO opening team.

He's now been asked to go and support the opening of another branch 30 miles from home. (45 mins in good traffic) They've offered him a 5% payrise to do it, agreed to pay his mileage and promised it's for a maximum of 3 months and there'll be a job for him back at home branch afterwards. All verbally.

They've also said they'll train him for the next job up while he's there, which will put him in a good position to get that role at a new branch planned later in the year, 15 miles from here.

So he's very excited and I don't want to rain on his parade, but it's a lot of promises and he knows that one of the reasons he's been asked to do it is that his current branch is overstaffed and they've struggled to recruit for the new one. (In London).

Obviously he has no "rights" as he's only been there a few months. Is there anything he can do to protect himself from either there being no job at the end of it or them deciding the move is permanent? He's happy to do it short term while they pay expenses, but pay isn't good enough to pay the travel costs to if it were his regular workplace.

I know I'm over thinking, what will be will be and it could be really good for him, but it all seems a bit too good to be true.

He sounds like a big boy and is managing just fine with life. Leave him to it x

Sounds like he's doing well!

To cover himself, he should email his manager, copy HR, and say 'I'm happy to agree to go to the new branch for 5% bla bla bla, please let me know if there are any problems'.

But it doesn't sound terrible to me, please don't loss on his chips.
